A new curtain wall from level three downwards will be installed and a new canopy constructed at street level. After trialling various options to determine the best methodology, Keyway has just started construction. The $20-25m project is earmarked for completion by late 2024. Another significant Primeproperty Group project underway is the James Smith car park in Wakefield Street. The car park suffered extensive damage during the Kaikoura Earthquake in 2016. Keyway will repair and strengthen the building to around 100% NBS by building new shear walls and other concrete and structural steel works. The engineering design phase has been completed and has been submitted for building consent with construction due to start in November 2022. The project is expected to take around 18-24 months. Other projects include seismic strengthening projects in Auckland and in New Plymouth and converting Waterloo Backpackers in Wellington into a hotel.
