80 | BUILDING Hardy Construction Quality craftsmanship core skill set for builder Karen Phelps A passion for the industry and building quality houses has seen Hardy Construction director Sam Hardy take a role at executive level of Master Builders as vice president of the Whanganui region. “My dad was involved in Master Builders and got gold and supreme awards in the House of the Year competition. I always enjoyed going through that process with Dad and then later, working for an employer, I was in charge of building a house that won a gold award. “Master Builders has always been about quality craftsmanship and making sure a builder delivers a high end product to the client and that’s certainly what I stand for as well. It’s also great to be around all the people on the committee as they are passionate about the industry as well.” Sam says he literally grew up on a building site, following around his builder dad. As soon as he left school he started working for his father and never looked back. Sam’s 22-year career has seen him working in New Zealand, California and Hawaii. After he met wife Stacey they moved back home to Whanganui and started Hardy Construction in 2017. Home wows judges Those enjoying the outdoor spaces will be rewarded at times with amazing sunsets. Quite a privilege and honour.” Special projects just keep on coming too! Another current build on the outskirts of Cambridge looks over the whole of the Waikato. “It’s going to be amazing when completed, but we’re also building two small complicated homes. One is a renovation in St Andrews and the other being built on a very steep section near Hamilton’s Fairfield Bridge. Craig says he’s feeling very positive about the situation of the business and the types of builds they engage in. “The owner who lives in the home calls it her ‘oasis’ and the house has been built to be easy, comfortable and engaging to live in.” CJW Build A Registered Master Builder and Licensed Building Practitioner Sam employs a skilled team, which includes a construction manager, qualified builders, a qualified joiner, labourers, and apprentices. It’s part of the recipe for success that helps Hardy Construction achieve high levels of attention to detail and work on a variety of projects from new homes to renovations, additions and, more recently, light commercial projects. Hardy Construction’s professionalism is highlighted by its association with Landmark Homes as a preferred contractor in Whanganui region. “Landmark Homes gave me my first opportunity to build a lovely home for a local client when I started my business and that was the start of that relationship. I like Landmark Homes because they build high quality houses with great designs.” Hardy Construction is also a preferred contractor for the Whanganui District Health Board, which has seen it recently complete earthquake strengthening and internal renovation of the CMH Te Kopae community mental health building. Sam says the project was challenging due to it being an older building with minimal council information held on it. “Once you get involved and open the buildResidential & Commercial R PlaceMakers (07) 838 0716 HAMILTON CITY TE KUITI (07 ) 878 8149 MORRINSVILLE (07) 889 8057 DESIGNED FOR LIFE Nulook™ Windows & Doors Wanganui is a local ly owned proud fami ly business providing the greater region wi th qual i ty Aluminum joinery for over 30 years.
