Well-established Morrinsville construction firm Kelvin Lalich Builders has a change on the horizon, as its founder prepares to hand over to the next generation when he enters semi-retirement, and hopefully get that overseas holiday he has been waiting for. Kelvin Lalich Builders has been in business for more than 35 years, with Kelvin expertly navigating market changes throughout, making sure his company was always where it needed to be. During the stock market crash of 1987, Kelvin Lalich Builders was extremely new and although it was hard to do, Kelvin kept his head above water. The GFC in 2008 saw Kelvin Lalich Builders lose up to eight of its 19 staff but in this recession, Kelvin saw an opportunity as well as an essential need to diversify. Kelvin Lalich Builders had been building up its commercial portfolio but with no commercial work to be priced, the firm pivoted back to the residential market. Today the market has changed again. Kelvin’s new home enquiry has slowed down immensely, so the firm is now heavily focused on education projects for Te Tahuhu o te Mātauranga The Ministry of Education, and for a number of other education and commercial clients.
