The recent radical transformation of a Havelock North three-bedroom family home from an everyday 1960s’ Summit Stone brick box to a contemporary, open-plan home within the rolling Havelock Hills, exemplifies the company’s expertise, and its commitment to fostering partnerships. This time partnering with Melissa Burne of Arch Int architectural designers of Napier, Rob and his build team successfully completed this significant renovation for the homeowners, with the project aimed at modernising the home inside and out and opening the living spaces to capture views out towards Te Mata Peak and the Ruahine Ranges. “This was a major renovation of a split-level house over five months,” says Rob. “The renovation began by knocking down walls to create an open-plan kitchen that extended the living space to maximise the stunning views and all-day sun.” The reconfigured interior includes a master bedroom extension and bathroom ensuite, plus a renovated laundry and office conversion downstairs. The home was re-insulated and double-glazed throughout, while hardwood flooring was also added in the living areas. The new layout allows for better natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere throughout. The top rear level of the home, above the garage, was extended and a large focal-point deck added. “The large deck out the back of the house provides seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living, essentially turning it into an outdoor living space in the sun,” says Rob. The exterior was entirely re-clad in cedar timbers replacing the outdated brickwork and the property underwent a comprehensive landscaping overhaul, including in-built seating and remodelled entranceway. “There was lots of interest from people passing by from the curbside whilst we built,” says Rob. The location was a great spot, and the homeowners loved their existing neighbourhood, so renovating was identified as a more favourable option than moving or rebuilding.
