The 16-sided circular home with an eight-sided atrium in the middle is an architectural marvel designed by Etch Architecture Taranaki and is being built for a couple as their retirement home. Testament to Megaw Construction’s ability to bring complex and innovative designs to life, the unique house had scared off other builders, but not New Plymouth licensed building practitioner Justin Megaw, who has been running his own building company for over 14 years. “It’s been a bit of a challenge to bring it to fruition,” says Justin, “but we got there through a lot of string lines and head-scratching, and it has turned out really well. The house features an atrium in the middle, which has a big dome on top of it so light comes into the centre of the house. The atrium has eight little gables around the dome that have all got triangle windows, and every wall has windows, so it’s definitely one of a kind.” Another standout project the Megaw Construction build team have completed is the restoration of a large old villa. “We split the villa in half, and had it transported from central New Plymouth to its new rural location where we reassembled and restored it.” Megaw Construction is also adept at rural buildings and is currently building a 60-bale rotary cowshed in south Taranaki. This project highlights their extensive concreting skills, as they have laid 250 cubic metres of concrete in just three weeks. “We’re doing all the outside yard work including concreting and putting in posts and effluent systems,” says Justin. Megaw Construction’s success is largely driven by word-of-mouth referrals and repeat customers, a testament to the company’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
