The collaboration highlights Summerset Group's commitment to engaging local businesses, bringing significant benefits to both the community and contractors, says Davis Building owner and LBP Darren Davis. "It's great they try and use local businesses on their projects. It's an awesome development to be a part of." With 35 years of experience in the building trade, Darren has come full circle in his relationship with Summerset Group, having worked on some of their first villages in Paraparaumu, Levin, and Palmerston North early in his career. Darren's previous experience with Summerset has proved invaluable, allowing him to hit the ground running on this project. The contract involves constructing all residential homes, including two-storey Louisville and single-storey villas, totalling 69 blocks over a multi-year period. Darren says the opportunity has allowed Davis Building to demonstrate its capacity for large-scale projects and credits his “great team”. The company currently employs around 20 carpenters on the site, drawing from a trusted group of contractors. Darren emphasises the importance of company culture in Davis Building's success. Creating a safe and enjoyable working environment includes social events and korero with staff one on one to check in with them. "The culture is the most important part of Davis Building. It's a friendly open door policy. That's why our team enjoys coming to work and generally stay with the company a long time. This focus on creating a positive work environment has contributed to our ability to take on such a significant project.” Davis Building is also committed to developing the next generation of builders, currently employing six apprentices at various stages of their qualifications. “I was where they were once upon a time so it's a way to give back," Darren says. For Darren, who has lived in Waikanae for 18 years, the project offers more than just business growth. "I live five minutes away from the job whereas before I had to travel to Wellington. It's a dream come true. We all work as one team collaboratively. Summerset is a great client to work for and I really appreciate the opportunity to grow my business. It's unbelievable and I look forward to assisting them on this and future projects." Local Builder Thrives with Summerset Waikanae Project Darren Davis: 027 4411092 office@davisbuilding.co.nz
