These developments underscored OMV’s growing influence in the region and its capability to manage large-scale energy projects, Kevin says. “In 2018, OMV purchased the Shell NZ assets, including interests in the Māui, Pohokura and Tank Farm assets. “Shortly after this, the company launched into a 500million Euro development campaign at the Pohokura and Māui fields to increase production from its existing fields – an investment that reaffirmed its long-term commitment to New Zealand.” In 2021, OMV announced its Strategy 2030 and intentions to transition towards more sustainable energy sources, aligning with global decarbonisation and renewable energy trends, a strategy that includes reducing traditional production over time. With this came the decision to commence a sales process for the Asia Pacific region, including New Zealand, a process that is currently ongoing.
