PAGE 14 Over the last 25 years, OMV New Zealand has faced several challenges including fluctuating oil prices, regulatory changes, and the shift towards renewable energy. However, Kevin says the company has successfully navigated these hurdles through innovation, adaptability, and collaboration. “For instance, OMV has embraced digitalisation and enhanced operational efficiency through the use of cutting-edge technologies, such as remote operations. It has also worked closely with stakeholders, including government bodies, to ensure compliance and sustainable development practices, enabling it to continue providing energy while addressing environmental concerns. “We’ve seen the importance of gas in New Zealand as a transition fuel recently with electricity and gas prices hitting an all-time high as hydro, wind and solar have a shortfall. “There’s no doubt, that gas will still be needed for the short to medium term as we transition as a country, and OMV plans to transition itself as a business as well. Our people and skills will be needed in the future to support renewable-energy projects, and we’re excited for that transition and development. “The oil and gas industry has seen a lot of scrutiny over the years – we’ve had protestors boarding vessels and scaling office blocks, and key to overcoming this has been continued engagement with stakeholders, communities, and iwi, and a continued focus on the safety of our staff. “ A large portion of OMV New Zealand’s staff have been through the divestment of Shell assets to OMV, and are now facing the same process with OMV looking to sell the New Zealand assets. “Throw in an office remodel and move in 2020, and there has been a lot of change over the years. “With that change brings uncertainty and our people have been resilient throughout these processes and adapted each and every time. “Merging two organisations (Shell and OMV) was a journey that took a number of years. “It required open and honest engagement with staff who have risen to the challenge to continue to provide energy to New Zealand.” National network of flatdecks & curtainsiders General cargo and project work Oversize loads Specialist equipment Container work – TF certified Storage and Warehousing Great local team 0800 845 5494 marketing@movelogistics.com In-water class surveys - UWILD Longstanding local partner with OMV NZ 0800502 332 www.jdhickman.co.nz
