REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Downer - Manawatū-Whanganui Purere Blasting Services has been e iciently removing paint lines on roads in the Wellington region for almost a decade, working alongside infrastructure companies like Downer. Now Purere is in expansion mode and targeting growth into the lower North Island. A key point of di erence for the company is their pledge to take o the paint without ‘wrecking the road’. Company founder Peter Fraser describes their innovative vapour blasting process as a type of sand blasting where water vapour serves as an inbuilt dust suppressant. He says a critical advantage of the technique is that it’s much less damaging compared to other paint removal processes. “That’s because the pressure on the road is under 120 psi,” says Peter. “This greatly reduces the risk of blowouts. Indeed, roads we vapour blasted seven years ago have not developed potholes where the blasting occurs, which is common with other methods. We provide a whole of life approach that minimises damage to road surfaces.” Purere Blasting Services can remove permanent paint lines as well as cold applied plastic (CAP) road markings, thermoplastic, audio tactile pro iled (ATP) rumble strip road markings and structured products from asphalt, coarse chip and concrete without wrecking the road. Peter says the opening of both the Paint removal service that’s kind to roads Transmission Gully motorway and the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway in 2022 has opened up the lower North Island for his business. “It means I can now realistically o er my services north of Wellington and be guaranteed to start work on time because it’s now so easy to travel fromWellington to Manawatū-Rangitkei-Whanganui. I can get my truck to Palmerston North in under two hours.” Peter has recently bought a second truck for his business, as well as two new blasting units that will be itted to his trucks. “This investment ensures the service I’m providing is really competitive, with the new units being signi icantly faster.” Purere Blasting Services o ers competitive solutions. “We aim to be fair, with the focus being on removals rather than simply turning up. For example, night work is typical so we don’t charge a night shift surcharge’. Peter has iwi links to Mōkai Pātea Nui Tonu/Ngāti Hauiti. His business is inspired by tikanga Māori. “Pūrere is the Māori word for ‘machine’ and is also the base for the word Purerehua, which means butter ly. Our company logo features a stylized Kahukura (the Red Admiral) surrounded by Ngā Hau e Wha (the four winds). This represents the juxtaposition of power with fragility.” 027 668 8618 peter.fraser@purere.co.nz Water Blasting • Vapor Blasting
