REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT With a dedicated in-house engineering and design team of around 40 staff, Taranaki company Monkeytoe Group has the ability to develop, engineer, manufacture and install, offering customers an end-to-end solution. “Customers are impressed by the fact that Monkeytoe are continuously designing innovative products and have the ability to do everything for them, cutting down the need for multiple consultants and contractors,” says Monkeytoe Group New Zealand projects division manager Toby Broomhall. This innovative approach has positioned Monkeytoe Group as a leader in the design and manufacture of large aluminium structural egress stair solutions, roof access systems (walkways, ladders, hatches, aluminium handrails, steps and stiles, gutter guards and snow guards); roof mounting (HVAC plant platforms) and external fire stairs for commercial and industrial buildings. Since its inception in 2006, the company has grown from a small engineering firm to a major player in the construction industry, employing over 130 people across Taranaki and its multiple offices across New Zealand and Australia. “We specialise in early-stage design as consultants,” says Toby. “Engaging with us at the beginning saves our clients time and money while mitigating problems, resulting in a cost-effective solution.” What sets Monkeytoe apart, however, is not just the breadth of its offerings, but the innovative technology behind them. At the heart of Monkeytoe’s success is its proprietary fixing system, which Toby describes as the foundations for the innovative roof-mounting products. The system uses a unique clip that clamps to the roofing profile without penetration where applicable, dispersing loads through a network of lightweight aluminium beams. On trapezoidal roofing profiles, loads are then transferred directly to the building sub-structure. This approach not only ensures the structural integrity of the roof, but also provides a more flexible and cost-effective solution compared to traditional methods that consist of large penetrations followed by large back flashings. “We designed the Monkeytoe mounting clips and roof fixings in partnership with New Zealand roofing consultants and manufacturers to ensure full compatibility with roof fixing best practice and roofing warranties. All mounting clips, extrusions and fixings are designed to comply with the ‘dissimilar metals’ standards, while maintaining strength and the ability to withstand the extreme external weathering conditions in New Zealand,” explains Toby. This focus on innovation and problem-solving stems from the company’s origins. Founded by Tim Prestidge in the early 1990s as a one-man engineering company servicing rural needs, Monkeytoe Group found its niche when Fonterra approached Tim to develop a roof access solution. The resulting product earned the nickname ‘monkeytoe’, which later became the company’s registered name in 2007. Monkey Toe Group products are engineered for safety and are manufactured in New Zealand at the company factory in Normanby, South Taranaki. All products are fully compliant with AS/ NZS industry standards. Many products have a lifetime warranty. Products can be easily tailored to suit individual needs as every roof access requirement is slightly different, says Toby. Clients include major retailers like Bunnings, Mitre10 and Pak’nSave, commercial property giants such as Westfield, fast-food chains like McDonald’s, telecommunications companies like Spark, energy providers like Mercury, and major construction firms including Hawkins and Naylor Love. Even Auckland Airport has benefited from Monkeytoe’s expertise. “We’ve recently been certified to ISO 45001, an internationally recognised health and safety standard. Additionally, we’ve achieved an environmental product declaration Global GreenTag International for our XBeam product, a roof-mounted platform solution. This product is compliant with the European standard ISO 14025.” 161 Ingestre Street, Wanganui 4500, NZ smarter faster easier EFFICIENT MANUFACTURING PROCESSES solutions for Phone +64 6 348 7755 sales@alphaprecision.co.nz www.alphaprecision.co.nz Proud to be supporting Monkey Toe Group Ltd KEEPING YOU SAFE AT HEIGHTS 021 251 6684 • info@fhworks.co.nz • www.fhworks.co.nz Height Safety Systems Recertifications Netting Solutions Platforms Mountings Staircases Ladders PIPE & TUBE BENDING ALL GENERAL ENGINEERING 45 plus year’s experience in the industry, the dedicated team at BRT Ltd are able to take on all jobs with the quality of service that their reputation is founded on. 247 Princess St, Hawera, 4610 P: 06 278 6797 M: 027 483 8712 E: brtltd@xtra.co.nz PROUD TO BE INVOLVED WITH MONKEY TOE GROUP LTD TURRET PUNCH | PRESS BRAKE | GUILLOTINE | MANDREL BENDING
