Heavy Diesel Tech Limited CONTRACTING Neil Anderson leads Heavy Diesel Tech Ltd, based in Carterton. He founded the company in 2015, initially as a sole trader, then as a company from April 2017, though Neil’s time in the diesel servicing sector goes back a further 13 years. “We were working then for a forestry contractor in this region. I had plenty of business from the word go. “We’re a family-run business with my wife Audie and we have a very talented welder/engineer who contracts to us,” says Neil. Neil has worked in numerous sectors of the industry, after first studying at the Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill. Shortly after meeting Audie when they were just 19 years of age, he transferred to Gough Gough and Hamer in Audie’s home town, Dunedin. He spent time at Macrae’s Gold Mine north of Dunedin, followed by a year servicing and maintaining Real Journeys’ fleet in Milford Sound. Other jobs, including time in the Chatham Islands working on a fishing boat, added valuable experience for Neil, preparing him well to eventually set out on his own. Heavy Diesel Tech Ltd carries the latest tooling technologies, giving clients the benefit of minimal waiting time. This equipment includes a lathe, plasma cutters and diagnostic computer. Shaws supplies HDTL with all parts for servicing and repairs. Predominantly the work is around servicing and maintaining all manner of forestry equipment, including large overhauls. The bulk of the work is undertaken on site, so the team travels extensively throughout the Wairarapa. “We have a full set-up at our workshop with full hose and fittings stock and also a mobile trailer with gear and stock to make and fit hoses promptly on site.” Latest projects include shifting a full line-up of forestry gear on the Kapiti Coast which, Neil says, certainly had its challenges. “We had to remove a machine from the transporter and disassemble it to get it under one of the bridges. Makes for a long day. “We’ve worked in closely for years with Hawkes Bay Heavy Haulage whenever we need machines moved locally or throughout the country.” The company are also stockists and service agents for ENSIGN Woodman pro equipment. Heavy Diesel Tech Ltd’s depot is located at 21 Pakihi Road, Waingawa, Carterton, but more often than not the team members are engaged on sites bringing their services to the client’s doorstep. “You can imagine that in the forestry sector, any downtime of equipment is costly, so we aim to be on site, delivering our expertise, as soon as absolutely possible. “We enjoy nothing more than to see clients’ equipment back up and running, doing what it’s supposed to do.” The geography Heavy Diesel Tech Ltd extends over is vast, from up the Kapiti Coast on the west then towards Napier/Hastings on the east. Because the bulk of their work relates to the logging sector, Neil keeps a close eye on how that industry is performing currently and what trends are presenting in the future. “I think all in all we’ve navigated the sector and industries we work in very successfully with a bit of luck on our side.” The service offering includes preventative service maintenance, stocking parts, oils and filters, and fulfilling scheduled maintenance contracts. “We like to think our pricing is very competitive as we’ve been in the game long enough to have a very good sense of the costs and time involved in any work we take on.” Neil says he always enjoyed pulling things apart, tinkering and putting things back together so the gear works at top performance. “This is certainly what our clients expect of us and what we pride ourselves on delivering.” PROUDLY SUPPORTING AND BEEN SUPPORTED BY HEAVY DIESEL TECH
