Greg, who comes from a family of cabinet makers, started out making kitchens in his father’s shed. He and wife Ginny can look back with pride on how far their business has come since those early beginnings. Their operational base today is a spacious, purpose-built factory, together with a modern showroom and office, collectively employing a skilled team of 10. Through the years, Greg Harman Joinery has made a big contribution to the future of their industry by taking on apprentices. That commitment is ongoing. “We’re very proud of our current apprentice, Daisy, and how well she is going,” says Ginny. “She has an artisan background and a real passion for woodcraft.” As well, Greg and Ginny encourage ongoing staff education and development, in conjunction with the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association (NKBA) and business mentors. Investing to purchase their factory 10 years ago was a bold step for the couple, but has really paid off by creating more space for machinery and room to grow their team. “We have a super-modern edge bander, CNC machines and the latest technology, which has enabled us to automate some processes and work much faster,” says Greg. “We primarily make custom kitchen cabinetry for builders and homeowners, for both new homes and renovation projects. We can make any cupboard, any size to fit your space with absolute precision.” Greg Harman Joinery attracts a lot of repeat clientele, who understand the benefits of choosing a full custom service, from design to installation. “We offer a quality point that sits well above the ready-made flatpack packages you see. For example, we only use moisture-resistant board and high-quality hardware. Added to that, we install our kitchens and fully stand behind them.” Their showroom space displays several kitchen styles, a laundry option, a wardrobe layout, two island options, various cabinetry finishes, and porcelain, Formica, stone and Corian tops. “You can have a look and a feel and think about what you want,” says Ginny. “We can guide you on storage options as well as kitchen tops, cabinetry and where to place appliances so you can achieve a great-looking kitchen that will also be very practical. Simon, our designer, does an amazing job of presenting the options, so many people say to us, ‘I’ve got a great kitchen, thanks to his patience’. We offer a very personalised service, from start to finish.” Greg Harman Joinery has developed a flexible wardrobe system, a popular choice for new homes as it provides attractive custom layouts to fit the space and particular storage needs. “It’s cost-effective and you can make it any width,” says Greg.
