128 | The company has signed up to build a new coach next year on a Scania chassis. The same ethos extends to tourism. Callum has worked with Venture Taranaki and regional suppliers to develop tour products that give smaller Taranaki businesses a way to reach visiting groups. Weir Bros has seen several seasons with three to five cruise ships visiting New Plymouth, although only one is anticipated in the current season. Callum believes the region needs more tour products and stronger connections between suppliers to make the most of future cruise and group opportunities. Collaboration is fundamental because the tour arm depends on the people and businesses behind each experience. “We would not be able to operate as a business without collaboration with any of the suppliers or our RTOs (regional tourism organisations) and things within the region. It’s massively important to have those relationships and to keep the communication lines open.” The business is expanding beyond Taranaki, having purchased Northland Bus Charters in Whangārei this year, but its local roots remain evident in its investment, employment and purchasing. Callum traces that foundation to his grandfather Hugh Weir and to Clark and Margaret, whose management established the business that exists today. “They laid the foundation so it’s a credit to both of them, to how we got to where we are today. I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to carry the legacy on.” T T from page 127 EXPERIENCES Weir Bros Let’s create your company’s growth strategy together! 26 Wellington Street Hawera 4610 www.hughson.co.nz | Phone: 0800 accountant (06) 278 4169 With oices in Hawera, Opunake and New Plymouth PROUD TO PROVIDE ACCOUNTING SERVICES FORWEIR BROS
