T T to page 29 T he New East Wing Building (NEWB) in New Plymouth at Taranaki Hospital is targeting a five-star Green Star certi - fication, which would make it New Zealand’s first public or private hospital to achieve this rating, says Taranaki District Health Board pro- gramme director Ian Grant. The project is part of Project Maunga, which is stage two of the $80 million Base Hospital redevelopment that will deliver to the region six operating theatres, ambulatory elective surgery and procedure services, paediatrics and a new inpatient ward block. Ian says state of the art technology is involved to produce the Green Star rating and which will make the hospital a national leader, possibly the most technologically savvy build- ing in the province. The Renal Unit, which forms another part ofthe Project Maunga facility, will target Net Zero Energy certification, meaning that over a year the building will have a net zero energy consumption. Ian says that both of these accreditations mean that the design and con- struction of NEWB and the Renal Unit need to have strong sustainability principles ingrained. This includes reduced energy and water consumption through technology such as photovoltaic on the roof of the Renal Unit, improved indoor environments (natural light, thermal comfort and air quality), sustainable materials and reduced impact on the sur- rounding environments. Not only will this mean that the build- ings will reduce Taranaki DHB’s carbon and energy footprint, it is also expected to have a significant benefit to staff, patient and whānau wellbeing, he says. The project benefited from up to $1.2m of funding from the government’s Decarbon- isation Fund, which aims to reduce carbon emissions in the state sector. Other key drivers of Project Maunga were to provide appropriate seismically rated facilities and enhance operational efficiencies. • Lo c a l l y own ed and ope r a t ed • S c a f f o l d i ng , r i gg i ng and a c c e s s s o l u t i on s • I nno v a t i v e s c a f f o l d i ng s y s t ems t o s u i t a l l r equ i r eme n t s • Con t a i nme n t and s h r i n k w r ap • Qua l i f i ed and p r o f e s s i ona l pe r s onn e l • No p r o j e c t t oo l a r ge P: 06 758 9778 E : p a u l @ c c l s c a o l d i n g . c o . n z Ta r ana k i ’ s r e c omme nded s c a f f o l d i ng s o l u t i on s i n c e 1979
