T T to page 32 “We are trying to create the best customer/patient experience we can in a modern and comfortable premise, and give our staff a working environment they can be proud to work in....” T he experienced and dedicated team of medical professionals at Broadway Radiology provides comfortable and stress-free visits for its patients and high-qual- ity imaging for their referrers, knowing that high quality images and accurate diagnostic reports help with the accuracy of diagnosis, and therefore treatment. Broadway Radiology has been serving the Manawatu and Horowhenua regions for more than 20 years, but its story goes back to 1950, when Mercy Hospital was established in Palm- erston North. Consultant Radiologist Dr Peter Dixon joined Mercy X-Ray, providing a range of x-ray and ultrasound services to the region. In the early 1990s, Peter partnered with Dr Lauretta Tan to run Mercy X-ray as a private practice. In 1998, Dr Tan retired, and Peter established Palmerston North X-Ray (PNX) with backing from Castlereagh Radiology. He employed former Hospital senior manager Duncan Scott as General Manager. Palmerston North X-Ray opened a private practice, trading as Broadway Radiology, on Broadway Avenue. In 1999, PNX established an MRI service at Palmerston North Hospital, and then in 2007, established an x-ray and ultrasound service at the Horowhenua Health Centre. Peter and Duncan purchased PNX in 2012 and Broadway Radiology officially became locally owned and operated. In 2015, Broadway Radiology established an X-ray and ultrasound service at Feilding Health Care. Significant growth saw Broadway Radiology outgrow its premises on Broadway Avenue, and returned to its roots at the site of the old Mercy Hospital. In 2017, Broadway Radiology opened the doors to its state-of-the-art facility, the purpose built Aorangi Specialist Centre, which is one of the most modern facilities in New Zealand and fitted with the latest digital technology. “It’s a majestical building,” says Duncan. “We pulled an old icon down, and we thought we should put one back. We wanted to leave a legacy.” He says patients at Aorangi Specialist Cen- tre don’t normally want to be there, because apart from pregnancy ultrasounds, there is something broken, or something wrong. “So, we are trying to create the best cus- tomer/patient experience we can in a modern and comfortable premise, and give our staff a working environment they can be proud to work in, with all the latest equipment.”
