| 37 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Central Hawke’s Bay: Heinz Watties The main focus of the upgrade was an investment in a new canning retort capability designed to increase reliability and productivity. For Collin Lister the Managing Director of electrical, automation and instrumentation support specialists, LAE Limited, it is not just about the wires, software, instruments or the inance — it’s always the people that make the di erence. “For me, people are extremely important; my own sta , my customers and stakeholders. We have been blessed with a great team that understands the company values and demands, and who are dedicated to getting the job done right. We all have that ‘can do’ attitude. Not only do we say ‘yes’ to challenging projects, but we deliver on expectations.” Equally important to Colin is partnering with customers and stakeholders to understand their production demands, budget constraints, time schedules and ultimately translating ideas to workable solutions with predictable outcomes. Starting its professional journey in 2016, LAE Limited is based in Hastings, the food bowl of New Zealand and works with a diverse range of industry sectors that include food & beverage, manufacturing, packaging, horticulture and laboratory systems. While predominantly operating throughout the Hawke’s Bay some projects have been undertaken in Australia and Collin says with the company’s growth and evolution over the last ive years he and his team are now starting to look at challenging projects beyond the Bay. As well as specialising in industrial measurement and controls on process instrumentation LAE’s internal skill sets include electrical and automation projects and legacy system upgrades to bring those systems and processes into the 21st century. “With all these things in place our work now includes turn-key designed system solutions, as well as many bespoke integrated solutions where budget may be a limiting factor in some cases. We look at developing what they already have and integrating it with new technology. If there’s nothing o the shelf to meet those needs then we design, install and commission a customized solution that will.” LAE Ltd was a key player in the development of Heinz Watties major new pet food plant in Hastings. “This was a green ield project and we were invited to be part of the design team which included International OEM manufacturers, mechanical, process, production and quality control. From that we developed a detailed process design for an automated turnkey solution, and how it all connected electrically. We then installed, implemented and commissioned the electrical, instrumentation and software component of this project, prior to handover. It was rewarding working together with all the stakeholders on this project, seeing it come together and I am very proud of what my team has accomplished.” Delivering on expectations LAE Limited, Automation Electrical Engineering 22 Tait Road, RD1 Hastings , , Ryan Hill (Operations Manager) 021 042 8385 ryan@laehb.co.nz ill i . .
