48 | Central Hawke’s Bay: CHB Earthmovers REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Moving heaven and earth to deliver the goods Aside from civil construction, farm maintenance works, forestry roading, and offerings from the provisional growth fund extend the scope of work CHB Earthmovers can provide. T T Kelly Deeks W hen Hawke’s Bay’s CHB Earthmov- ers say they will move the earth for you, they really mean it. With com- bined experience of more than 20 years, the firm is delivering well beyond the extra mile. Managing director Justin Neville has been operating heavy machinery since 2005, and he now employs a team of 20 highly experienced and qualified operators. CHB Earthmovers operations manager Louis Meyer says the Hawke’s Bay as a whole is thriving with property development and people wanting to capitalise on that growth. “Combine this with the dry weather we have seen over the last couple of years, and water storage has become a priority giving CHB Earthmovers room to grow.” The company is currently working on a large water storage project that will hold 700,000m3 of water. Past water storage projects that CHB Earthmovers has delivered have ranged from 125,000m3 to 400,000m3, with the water being utilised for viticulture, arable crops, drought resistance, and dry land farming. “The experience we have gained has been well utilised to develop a framework for many new projects currently in the pipeline,” Louis says. “We have the unique ability to offer a turn key reservoir construction programme, from the complex process of achieving resource con- sent through to the delivery of water.” With residential growth in the Central Hawke’s Bay region currently at an all-time high, CHB Earthmovers is also working on multiple subdivisions with more in the pipe- line to start in early spring. “First-time developers don’t necessarily have the confidence or experience so they seek advice around what the end result could potentially look like. As a company we have over 10 years’ experience with these projects, and Justin has even more above that, so we enjoy helping others see their vision become reality.” In order to achieve successful delivery of a project and offer transparency to clients, CHB Earthmovers believes it is essential to have experience in site specific details, the ability to set programme time-lines, have reliable and necessary resources, and proven ability to de- liver to specification and to budget estimates. Aside from civil construction, farm mainte- nance works, forestry roading, and offerings from the provisional growth fund extend the scope of work CHB Earthmovers can provide. All of these works require detailed knowledge of the local terrain, ground conditions, weath- er, and the ability to work alongside other con- tractors and suppliers within the community. Through a lack of material resources for Transmission Gully, an opportunity arose for CHB Earthmovers to diversify alongside Ru- ahine Aggregates in supplying M4 AP40. This has enabled the firm to set up a quarry sup - plying a range of aggregates to the building, subdivisions, and roading projects throughout the region. CHB Earthmovers has grown significantly over the past 12 months and wouldn’t be able to take on the large-scale projects if it wasn’t for the skilled and diverse people in the team. “We have embraced the evolving industry compliance demands and are committed to helping our staff upskill and take advantage of the training that is easily accessible now.” ATTITUDE | BEHAVIOUR | CULTURE The A,B,Cs of a good business when it comes to H&S.
