Urban Homes Rotorua BUILDING The catalyst for Ben and Ally Green to leave Auckland was Ally’s family’s decision to subdivide the hill-top farm she grew up on on the outskirts of Rotorua, although the groundwork for the move had been laid some years previously. That was when Ben decided to leave the corporate world behind for the building industry, and a business focusing on a mix of private renovations and insurance reinstatement work. “That work was really rewarding, especially the opportunity to add significant value to someone’s home, or be there to make their home good again after an often-traumatic insurance event,” says Ben. The subdivision is named Redwood Park after the neighbouring mature redwood forest, known for its mountain biking trails. The Noble family, could easily envisage a subdivision offering people a chance to live in a community built on lifestyle sections with beautiful views over Lake Rotorua and easy access to everything Rotorua has to offer, which they and their four children loved. When Ben started talking to Waikato-based design-and-build company Urban Homes, the final piece of the puzzle fell into place. “They knew where the land was and how beautiful it was, and it turned out they were going through the process of expanding beyond the Waikato. It was a perfect fit,” says Ben. Several meetings later, with a lot of due diligence done on both sides, the Greens became their second franchise owner, following the establishment of the Coromandel franchise in early 2024. “It was clear from that first conversation that Urban Homes is a values-led organisation that genuinely puts people at the centre of everything they do,” says Ben “They’ve been refining and improving the home-building journey for clients for 20 years, and it’s about a lot more than just the end product.
