BUILDING Structa has marked a significant milestone by winning a prestigious Registered Master Builders House of the Year Award just months after completing a strategic rebrand that reflects its evolving identity and ambitious future plans. “We decided to change our company name to reflect the modern, innovative nature of the company,” explains Ross Lewis, who co-owns the business with Mitchell Smith after working there for 13 years. “The rebrand to Structa signals our dedication to being ‘different on purpose’ in an industry where conventional approaches are often the norm.”’ Formerly known as Southcoast Construction, it was under this company name that it claimed regional gold in the Renovation $1 million-$2 million category for a stunning four-bedroom beach house transformation that exemplifies the company’s commitment to precision craftsmanship and innovative design solutions. Ross says the award-winning project demonstrates precisely why this fresh perspective matters. What began as a renovation quickly evolved into a complete transformation requiring the builders to strip the beach house back to its frames and foundations before rebuilding “Steve Roberts, a former director, was the project manager on this project,” says Ross. “It was his final goal to secure a House of the Year Award before departing on this career-defining high note.” The team installed new energy-efficient and durable materials throughout, including painted vertical shiplap and rusticated horizontal weatherboard cladding. Inside, they restored original matai floorboards and added exposed timber rafters and feature ceilings that inject warmth and character into the modern design. Every space received attention from the stateof-the-art kitchen to two guest bedrooms with bathrooms and a luxurious main-bedroom suite complete with ensuite and walk-in robe. The transformation extended outdoors with a new deck and patio creating seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces. Perhaps most impressively, the team crafted an entirely new basement granny flat. “We strongly believe in developing collaborative relationships, with honest and open communication that fosters mutually beneficial outcomes, and this project is a good example of this ethos,” explains Ross. “We value our clients and our staff, with no job too big or small to complete.” This philosophy has served the company well since it began trading in New Plymouth in 2013. Now employing around 30 staff, Structa tackles diverse projects across the Taranaki region, from residential new builds to commercial and educational projects. Both Ross and Mitchell are qualified builders and, alongside their project and site- management expertise, ensure technical excellence underpins every project.
