Smart Water & Irrigation has just moved premises to 56 Commerce Street, Whangarei, due to company growth. With more space to carry stock, a modern setup and central location with ample parking it can now o er a better service than ever, says company owner Matt Clayton. The company has invested in new testing equipment for pumps and a larger showroom. The bigger fabrication facility allows for more sizable jobs and a prompt service. A local born and raised Matt, who has over 20 years industry experience, started Smart Water & Irrigation in 2017. Since then the company has continued to grow and now boasts a team of seven sta including certi ied welders. Matt says one of the key reasons for the company’s success has been its ability to undertake jobs from Working through the challenges start to inish in-house, from design to installation. This gives greater control over timing and quality of projects – something clients love. Smart Water & Irrigation has its own extensive plant including a crane truck and forklifts. It services and maintains customers’ existing pump and water iltration systems as well as undertaking new build projects such as the Te Tai Tokerau Water Trust’s reservoir projects. Matt says a key advantage for this client of using Smart Water & Irrigation was that it could pull together specialised suppliers to be able to work through the challenges. Smart Water & Irrigation undertook the pump station design, build and installation including the control gear and fabrication of all the pipework, suction and delivery lines for the station. Matt says key challenges included a limited electricity supply on site necessitating special control gear to control and protect the pumps during the project. The whole system can be controlled and monitored remotely. As the site doesn't have cell phone coverage, Smart Water & Irrigation worked with Halo Systems to design a system that works via radio wave signal to a cell phone coverage area, which the system can then connect to. Matt says the project is a good example of the complex projects that Smart Water & Irrigation can successfully deliver for clients. The company is currently working on a similar project for a kiwifruit orchard as well as an irrigation system with pumps controlled, depending on low rates, by a computerised system. It is also undertaking several projects for avocado orchards and the design and installation of a number of house pumps and iltration system projects.
