40 | T T Karen Phelps Making a mark on the global stage Legacy Steel has been named Global 100 Steel Contractor of the Year winner for 2023. CONSTRUCTION Legacy Steel Award winning steel fabrication and erection firm Legacy Steel has just been named Global 100 Steel Contractor of the Year winner for 2023. This is the fifth internationally recognised award that Auckland’s Legacy Steel has won in two years and the second year in a row it has been selected by the Global 100 judges. “Since our inception our goals have remained the same, to help a variety of clients from small residential builders to large commercial construction companies,” says Daryl Warren, the company’s managing director. “We pride ourselves on treating everyone’s project equally importantly as we believe we’re not just doing a job but building someone’s legacy. “Maintaining this perspective is the key element to our success and will remain one of the key pillars of our philosophy moving forward.” Key projects successfully completed over recent years demonstrate Legacy Steel’s capabilities and growing reputation. It has delivered the steel for nearly 200 units over a number of business parks around Auckland, including Ironworks and The Foundry stages One and Two, and is now in the process of working through the fourth project for The Forge in Hobsonville. All while supplying and installing both structural steel and metalwork to 36 buildings across the Te Arai Links golf course in Tomarata. Daryl says that the proactive manner in which Legacy Steel approaches jobs is striking a chord not only with the main contractors it deals with, but also further up the chain, impressing developers, architects and engineers alike. This in turn is translating to these people using Legacy Steel on their other projects and recommending the company to new clientele. “We focus on essentially making their jobs easier. Where there’s a problem, we identify this early and provide what we think is the solution. It gives the architect or engineer a practical viewpoint of how to solve the problem. More often than not, they accept our recommendations with only very slight tweaks.” Daryl says that by also bringing more services in-house Legacy Steel offers better flexibility and quality to its clients despite being a smaller company. “We’re always looking to offer a more complete package and flexible service by identifying other things we can offer the client to make their lives easier.” He says importance of the culture moving into the future is a focus. “Our by-line ‘Creating Legacies In Steel’ refers not only to the projects we’re involved with but the people who work for us, our merchants that supply us and the future we create together in the industry. “We don’t aim to be the biggest steel fabricators in New Zealand but we do aim to be one of the best. “How we have been operating and treating our clients has been working so we want to keep this up. “We stepped up our game in terms of safety with just recently being accredited with Sitewise Gold and now we’ll focus on developing class leading quality systems. “Legacy Steel is there for its clients every step of the way from tendering the project, identifying missing information and problems early, then carrying through the execution in a professional manner throughout each project. Legacy Steel is not ones to be pigeon-holed; we will always keep our mind open to all projects, small and large.” “We stepped up our game in terms of safety with just recently being accredited with Sitewise Gold and now we’ll focus on developing class leading quality systems.” Full Material Traceability Systems Industry Leading Processing Capability Comprehensive Range of Stock Responsive Processing Capability Quality Assurance “In Full and On Time” Delivery Promise STEEL · STAINLESS · PLATE & COIL PROCESSING www.vulcan.co Proudly supporting Legacy Steel
