| 55 MANUFACTURING Promax Engineered Plastics T T Kelly Deeks Rural sector big market Promax produces an extensive range of liquid storage solutions, from water to septic systems, fertiliser and stock food storage and stormwater management. As New Zealand’s premier designer and manufacturer of superior polyethylene water storage and transport solutions, Promax is always on the lookout for great people to join the team. “This is the best job I’ve ever had,” says Promax national operations manager Shaun Piper. “It’s an incredibly satisfying role with a great business and great people.” Promax made its first water tank in a kiwifruit packing shed in Whangarei in 1992. While the business initially provided some desperately needed water storage for rural and residential customers in the Auckland region, today it provides water tanks, liquid storage, and transport solutions to the rural, civil, industrial, and construction sectors. Promax solutions are designed and built in two state-of-the-art facilities in Rangiora in the South Island and Kerikeri in the far North. “Our facilities today are quite different from our humble beginnings in the kiwifruit packing shed,” Shaun says. “They are world-leading plants with inhouse resin compounding and massive ovens that produce thousands of tanks every year, including our ultra-strong corrugated ENDURO tanks for which we’re renowned.” Promax services customers in four different sectors and they all have a vast and varied range of requirements, so it is vital for the Promax team members to be able to relate to a broad range of different people. One of the largest markets for Promax is in the rural sector, where Promax provides off the shelf or custom-designed storage predominantly for water, but also for fertiliser, stock food, and molasses. In the construction sector, Promax has an extensive range of liquid storage solutions to suit every budget. Whether storing water, harvesting rain, septic systems or stormwater management, Promax solutions blend discreetly into their surroundings and are manufactured tough to last for many years. “In the past 30 years we’ve encountered most situations in water storage and we love to work with our clients to design a solution which helps them to achieve their specific objectives.” Promax’s civil division deals primarily with liquid transportation and dust suppression units which are designed and manufactured to deliver unmatched flexibility and economy. Promax’s specially formulated polymers eliminate rust and stress-cracking which also significantly reducing weight for maximum safety and strength and minimum hassle. In the industrial sector, Promax designs and builds bespoke products to specific customer requirements. Industrial liquid storage solutions range from stormwater and wastewater to chemical storage and firefighting tanks, and they vary in size from 200L to 30,000L. “Our industrial team continues to develop new solutions and further improve our range to keep pace with a dynamic market,” Shaun says. “The options are virtually endless.” With new product development key to making life easier for Promax customers, the company likes to bring people into its team who find these solutions by pushing the boundaries. “We’ve got to figure out how to do it faster and smarter than our competition, and we need our people to drive us in that direction. They’ve got to be hungry and they’ve got to have passion. That’s one thing you can’t teach people and when they have it, it’s infectious.” OR Jon Gill − All Drainage Work • Powerless Septic Systems Water & Attenuation Tanks • Digger & Bobcat CERTIFYING DRAINLAYER WHANGAREI & KERIKERI EARTHWORKS ∙ PIPELINES ∙ FARMWATER SYSTEMS NEW & OLD HOUSE SITE SEWAGE SYSTEMS ∙ FREE QUOTES At Pipe It Drain It, we're qualified drainlayers and we're up to date with the latest council and industry requirements.
