Twin Solutions BUILDING Building warm and healthy homes T T Hugh de Lacy The practicalities of planning and building a home that is warm, healthy and efficient to run are the driving forces of Warkworth-based residential builder Paul Webster-Young and his company Twin Solutions. Formed by Paul in 2009 after he returned from his OE in England, Twin Solutions delivers new builds and renovations around Auckland. It has made its name through Paul’s insistence on becoming involved early in the design process. “I’m able to offer the clients and their architects advice on the details that make the difference between convenience and unexpected irritation in the design,” Paul says. “For example, I can suggest the way a specific door needs to open for maximum functionality, ensuring that even such minor aspects of design ensure the feature works to its greatest possible efficiency. “This can go right back to the positioning of the house on the section so it takes full account of the environment in which it is being built. Many residential building sites in Auckland fail to make the best use of such elements as the sun and views to encourage that natural indoor-outdoor flow, and I make it my business to point out the best possible siting for the house before the foundations go down. “Early engagement is the best way forward for me as the builder.” The sons of Auckland builder George Webster-Young, Paul and his twin brother Rick took different paths after leaving school, Rick completing his carpentry apprenticeship under his father, and Paul working at a restaurant before going on to complete his chef’s qualifications at Manakau Institute of Technology. Paul then did his OE with stints in the restaurant trade in London and in the French Alps before coming home to New Zealand in time for the Millennium celebrations. The following year he and his partner returned to London where he forsook the food industry in favour of construction, working with Rick on a variety of building projects before finally coming back to New Zealand at the end of 2007. The Twin Solutions name for Paul’s company was one the brothers came up with while in England and considering launching a building business together in New Zealand. However, Rick decided to stay overseas, leaving Paul to form the company on his own. Paul currently has a tight-knit professional team that worked with him through the recent slow period in the Auckland residential building market, but with signs of a strengthening of that market he’s looking to take on new staff to meet demand. The company is affiliated to the New Zealand Certified Builders industry body, in which Paul has been active for years: he’s currently in his second year as president of the Auckland region’s oversight committee. Paul’s environmental consciousness is reflected in his decision to remove rubbish skips from his work-sites from early on, instead having his team shift all waste to recycling companies for final disposal and providing a waste minimisation plan for every project. 09 213 8814 admin@uprite.co.nz A professional and reliable service for all your scaffolding requirements Auckland wide Contact us Today ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓ HOUSE CUTS AND FOUNDATIONS Whether you need foundations for a small building, a large home, or a commercial property, we can help!
