Golden Homes - Auckland and Northland BUILDING www.interior.co.nz Kitchens | Vanities | Custom Cabinetry Whether you’re building new or renovating your existing property, it’s a given that you want all of the rooms in your home to meet the requirements of you and your family. Building group Golden Homes is living up to its name as industry innovators, providing strong, healthy homes across the Auckland and Northland regions. The company has been involved in a number of key projects in the area contributing to the growth of local communities over the years, including developments at Kumeu, Warkworth, Long Bay, Millwater, and Milldale. There are a number of projects coming up, sales manager Colin Marshall says, with more at Kumeu and Warkworth, plus new ones at Mangawhai, Marsden Cove, Whangarei, and Kerikeri. The company has just completed its newest show home at the large Milldale development, 25 minutes north of Auckland. Ranked New Zealand’s most family-friendly suburb in a Ray White survey, Milldale is part of the wider Orewa community and enjoys all the amenities of the Hibiscus Coast. A new Golden Homes show home is also underway, located on the canal at Marsden Cove waterfront development 30 minutes south of Whangarei. A two-level bespoke design with high-end specifications, it is expected to be completed in December 2025. Colin says the company is the employer and contractor for hundreds of staff, suppliers, contractors and tradespeople. There are currently more than 20 show homes offices in New Zealand and it has been one of the country’s largest building companies for more than 20 years. Golden Homes is proactive in sourcing innovative products to build homes, and in 2003 introduced double-glazing as standard to its homes, improving energy efficiency and home comfort. In 2005, it researched worldwide for framing options, and in 2007 introduced ZOG steel framing to the New Zealand market, which is stronger, straighter and healthier framing for homes. “Golden Homes is known as the innovators of the group home builders,” Colin says. Golden Homes successfully tested ZOG framing with brick cladding to over 9 on the earthquake Richter scale, and is also Asthma Foundation approved, with no warp, twist, rot or supporting the growth of mould. “It really is the framing of choice, as we are one of the only New Zealand building companies that have had experience in both timber and steel framing. Golden Homes houses are also extremely fire resistant, built with non-combustible materials like concrete foundations, ZOG steel framing, metal roofs, and fire-resistant roofing paper.” In 2012, the company introduced thermally isolated joinery as standard, and in 2016 brought in a rigid air barrier, HomeRAB thermal, for extra thermal protection. Since 2016, all Golden Homes plans have been designed and approved under CodeMark, a voluntary product certification scheme that ensures homes meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. “We are the only builder in New Zealand to have fully engineered and approved plans prior to lodging for building consent with the council,” Colin says. The current cost to build a Golden Home can vary depending on complexity of design and site- related conditions, but allowing $1800 to $2400 per sqm for single-level homes is a good indicator.
