MANUFACTURING Total Door Systems T T Sue Russell “Entrance doors are often about making a statement about the quality of the home, and there’s an enormous range of options in materials, design and colour for owners to choose from.” Having established Rotorua-based Total Door Systems in 2007, Richard Trask has grown the business to a team of 24, based on delivering reliable and realistically priced door systems to clients throughout New Zealand. “We’ve grown to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest door systems providers in the country, and that’s a journey I’m very proud of. I have always believed in looking after the customer by meeting their expectations on delivery time, and to price our products fairly,” Richard says. Total Door Systems specialises in wooden interior doors, pre-hung doors, cavity sliders, exterior doors, barn doors, wardrobe systems, door hardware and accessories. The business tends to work in whole houselots, and manufactures up to 100 doors a day at its workshop at 8 View Road, Mangakakahi. Typically, a project begins with Richard and the team receiving a set of plans from an architect or designer, from which a house-lot of doors are priced. Interestingly, Richard says door trends don’t really alter much; however, he has observed an interest by clients in returning to more traditional door designs, and the use of brass fitings, for instance. “Entrance doors are often about making a statement about the quality of the home, and there’s an enormous range of options in materials, design and colour for owners to choose from. “A well-designed entrance door says something about the home, and we get a great deal of satisfaction from constructing bespoke doors the owners are proud of.” Richard says material options are very broad – from polystyrene, solid, to honey-comb structured doors, giving clients plenty of options to choose from. Brother Jason Trask is 2IC, handling the sales side of the business, while Brent Austin is responsible for production in the workshop. “We have a large team of staff, who have been with us for a long time. They have a great work ethic and have bought homes and really established themselves well through working for us, which is something we’re very proud of.” When it comes to door accessory technologies, Richard says there’s an almost limitless array to choose from. Most are imported and sourced from a group of valued suppliers that service the company. “I think one of the things that is so good about Total Door Systems is that we provide doors for a huge range of situations, from kitset homes right through to $10 million homes, and we put the same care and attention into every door we supply.” Barn doors have become a real fashion statement in many homes and commercial situations. “Customers can choose from a native-wood finish barn door to bring more character into their home, or opt for a painted barn door to blend in with a more contemporary look. We can also provide the right track system to enhance the barn door and décor of the home, which is also very popular.” Cavity sliders are another popular option for many, and work in well when a seamless aesthetic is sought in a home. “We can supply cavity sliders to fit any doorway, and even bi-folding doors for cupboards and wardrobes.” Richard says the team at Total Door Systems like nothing more than providing their valued customers with a suite of beautifully designed, crafted and hung doors. “They make a real statement in a home, and while a door is just a door, serving a practical purpose, in fact they are a really critical design feature in any home or setting.” Cowdroy proudly supports Total Door Systems www.cowdroy.co.nz PROUDLY SUPPORTING TOTAL DOOR SYSTEMS EnviroSpec Product Partner
