We’ve stayed independent ever since, and we see it as a key part of our business strategy and point of difference, which enables us to provide a fuel delivery service to the majority of the oil industry companies today.” Becoming established as an independent petroleum bulk road-transport company, and staying that way, has allowed Tranzliquid Logistics to expand into bitumen and container cartage, and this year the Mount Maunganui-based trucking company is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Tranzliquid Logistics was founded initially with two trucks, and over the last 25 years has become a well-established business for partners Jackie Carroll and Greg Pert, and while Greg’s son Gareth Pert has taken over as managing director, both Jackie and Greg are still involved in the company’s management. And there’s a lot to manage, beginning with a fleet of Kenworths and one DAF truck, and the team of employees. The main hub is based in Mount Maunganui, with satellite depots scattered through both main islands. Each satellite depot is sited to be accessible to the oil terminals or customer plant. Tranzliquid has a proactive fleet maintenance programme to ensure all regulatory standards are upheld, and the fleet is safe and reliable, with many on-road safety features to enhance performance and safety. The petroleum cartage section of the company collects fuel from the country’s main oil terminals, and delivers it mostly to service stations, commercial customers and some ship bunkering. The impetus to launch Tranzliquid Logistics arose from Greg’s entry straight into the transport industry out of school and establishing his own owner-driver business with a single truck in his 20s, operating in the bulk dangerous goods transportation sector for many years. Then, 25 years ago, when a new oil company, Gull, came on to the New Zealand fuel scene it needed a local road distributor to get its fuel to the service stations, and Greg and Jackie had the opportunity to establish a partnership, giving a platform for Tranzliquid to grow. “Gull needed an independent fuel-delivery service provided, and that’s the role we filled. “We’ve stayed independent ever since, and we see it as a key part of our business strategy and point of difference, which enables us to provide a fuel delivery service to the majority of the oil industry companies today,” Jackie says. About 10 years ago, Tranzliquid Logistics expanded into the bitumen industry and now offers a fleet of trucks that tow customer-owned bitumen tankers, and also provides the management and scheduling service for the customer. More recently, and starting with just one truck, the company moved into the transport of kiwifruit in its home region, carting for the Tauranga-based company, TKL Logistics, which handles the whole of the Bay of Plenty region’s product. This enabled Tranzliquid to establish a fleet of container skele units to service various customers. “Sure, drivers love the KW trucks, and that’s a good thing in itself for recruitment of a great calibre of operators. “In addition, the Kenworth trucks retain their value on re-sale, and that ties in nicely with our truck replacement programme,” Jackie says. “Keeping the fleet modern has many benefits – lower maintenance costs, reliability and the latest performance and safety features.” From a Mack, to a Motorhome, a Maserati to a Mini we can do all your commercial & domestic repairs & refinishing.
