All Truck Repairs T T Sue Russell “I think you gain huge respect when they see the boss doing the mahi.” TRANSPORT Whangarei’s All Truck Repairs Ltd was established in 1998 by a very proud Gary Crane, who in his 47th year working in the industry, is still actively engaged on the workshop floor, doing what he enjoys doing best. All Truck Repairs offers a full suite of truck repair and maintenance services, employing 20 trained and apprentice mechanics, along with brake and wheel alignment professionals, auto electricians, and paint and panel experts. “We look after over 6500 trucks every year, and because we have a myriad of service expertise all in the one space, we’ve grown our reputation as a one-stop-shop for all things ‘truck’,” Gary says. And with his understanding of how the wider transport sector operates, Gary is very mindful of the importance of providing the best-possible service at the fairest cost to customers. Over his time in the industry, he has trained and qualified many young people keen to make a career from servicing trucks and all that goes with it. “First and foremost, this business is a great one because of the people I have employed. I might have lots of ideas, but it is the people who work, and their engagement with our customers, that really is where the value lies,” says Gary. The quality of engagement staff members on the workshop floor have with their workmates, as well as with the owner of the truck they are working on, really sets the business apart. “If a customer wants to have a discussion about issues with the truck, then they can have those with the person working on the truck. Customers want to feel valued, and they are to us – we believe our personal approach does that well.” Gary says his workshop manager is fantastic with the customer base, and many of his loyal staff have been with him for 10-plus years. As well as the array of truck servicing and repair options available under the one roof, another business allied to the company is an approved on-site COF inspection provider (Whangarei COFs). Gary is careful to point out that this is an LTSA-approved lane and is independent from All Truck Repairs Ltd. There is no expectation that truck operators using his workshop services will necessarily also use the COF inspection/issuing facility, or vice versa. Trucks failing a COF aren’t obligated to use All Trucks for COF repairs. They can seek repair work elsewhere and return for their recheck. These services are all available on-site for customers’ convenience, should they wish to use them. The COF business offers an on-line booking system, or phone bookings for customers wanting a more personal approach. “Certainly, our customer base has grown from our user-friendliness,” Gary says. He is also a great believer in leading by example, preferring to work on the floor with the rest of the team. “I think you gain huge respect when they see the boss doing the mahi. The building we operate in is plenty big enough to cater for any further developments. “It’s a great environment for truck operators, given so many services are offered under the one roof – a hassle-free, one-stop-shop.
