The school has 28 teaching spaces to accommodate 650 primary students, a BLENNZ (Blind and Low Vision Education Network NZ) satellite unit that will provide three specialist teaching spaces and administration facilities for outreach teaching staff, school administration facilities, a library and multi-purpose hall. The construction also included the school’s playing fields, a cycle track, hard courts, landscaping, car parking and all utilities infrastructure within the site. In addition, extensive upgrading of the road and footpath infrastructure external to the school boundary was required. Located off Joshua Carder Drive and Scott Road, the school is a fantastic education facility that will help support the fast-growing community at Hobsonville and Scott Point. The Scott Point School was always in the masterplan but the build was brought forward when the booming population outgrew Hobsonville Primary sooner than expected. Stage 1 of the project has provided 28 teaching spaces based on an establishment roll of 650 students. The design for Stage 2 has commenced and a third two-storey teaching block will provide an additional 10 teaching spaces increasing the full roll to the recommended masterplan roll of 900 students. “We have planned for growth, with services already in place ready to go, to allow for easy connection once Stage 2 of the project is ready to commence,” says Chris Fields, Project Manager for Hawkins. Scott Point School designed by Ignite Architects for the Ministry of Education reflects the latest concepts of progressive design for education. It seeks to provide a quality Innovative learning environment for students with the provision of flexible learning spaces. “Design concepts for education facilities have been hugely progressive in recent years,” says Chris. “‘The first school I was involved in constructing for Hawkins was in 1993 with traditional cellular classrooms. Scott Point School is very different from that type of design concept.”
