Lifting care capability with the right ceiling hoist Helping people be active is at the heart of what Active Healthcare does. The team achieves this by assisting customers on all types of projects. This recently included the opportunity to help Arvida, enabling the facility to better support their residents to be as independent as possible. Ceiling hoist systems are the perfect example of how Active Healthcare keeps people living independently, and on this project they supplied and installed their leading Guldmann GH1 Ceiling Hoist System, the choice of numerous Arvida care villages including Copper Crest and Aria Bay. The GH1 system is designed to meet the full range of day-to-day lifting needs in private homes and care environments, allowing carers to lift and move users weighing up to 255kg without risking back strain to them as well as providing means of independent living to residents. “The system saves time, as everything needed for lifting and moving is always in place, charged and ready to use as soon as it is needed. The result is more time for the care that really counts,” says Active Healthcare National Product Manager Nathan Carney. Nathan has an extensive background in working with complicated ceiling hoist projects, and leads the installation team as well as oversees all project management. He says the GH1 particularly appealed to Arvida due to its sleek, unobtrusive design, which helped Arvida achieve its goal of delivering a residential-type experience to residents. A key feature is the fact that the GH1 rail recesses into the ceiling or wall making it almost invisible, and just a part of the modern environment. They can easily be customised to any interior design by powder coating the same colour as the ceiling. – “The hoist has an NIMH long life battery (approximately 20000 lifts or 10 years) and also the lifting strap has the same lifespan. The GH1 hoist system can also be con igured with a portable option meaning the hoist can be moved from room to room. All Guldmann hoists have a state of the art software system that can download diagnostics and upload new technology into them to make the hoist the latest model every year when performing their annual certi ication. “We are starting to see a shift in the aged care sector where facilities are starting to make the change from loor hoists to ceiling hoists for improved safety, e iciency for resident and carer experience. Arvida’s decision to install GH1 ceiling hoist rail systems in its care suites o ers a new dimension of resident care and an improved working environment for sta as they can deal with most handling and lifting tasks, in an e ective, safe and digni ied matter.” New Zealand owned and operated Active Healthcare was started by pharmacist Selwyn Bishop in 1990.
