Arvida places a big emphasis on ensuring its villages offer a great environment for its residents. That’s why Natural Habitats was the obvious choice when it came to designing the landscape of Te Puna Waiora in Kerikeri. Natural Habitats Northland regional manager Lance Gilbertson says the focus has been on creating a design re ective of the area and history using local species sourced locally, largely from Bakerboys Nursery and Tui Downs. “These nurseries grow locally so the plants are conditioned to the environment and transition well. There has been an emphasis on using natives,” he says. It’s part of Natural Habitat’s focus on trying to source locally where possible so everything goes back into the community. For example a local designer has been overseeing the Te Puna Waiora project and staff have been sourced from local iwi including an apprentice. Features already included in Te Puna Waiora are a water fountain in the roundabout at the main entrance and common areas with open pathways and pergolas. Lance says that Natural Habitats always seeks to maximise the client’s budget and part of this is considering the on-going maintenance of the landscape. “This is extremely important and there need to be knowledgeable people, who know the plant species and needs that can take on the maintenance. We include a 12-month maintenance period in our contracts before handing that over to the client. Arvida facilities management has already taken over stage one and they’re doing a great job. That’s important for us as we take pride in what we create.” He says Arvida is a fantastic company to work with. “It’s about working together to get the best outcome. They are very focused on delivering a great product.” He says the Te Puna Waiora project re ects the Natural Habitat’s award winning expertise. Natural Habitats completes landscapes for a range of residential and commercial clients nationwide. Landscape maintenance teams with extensive horticultural knowledge can provide on-going maintenance. “We aim to create unique landscapes that respect the environment while adding value to the development. We take care to protect and enhance New Zealand’s native biodiversity while creating safe environments which enhance amenity value and commercial viability,” says Lance. “What sets Natural Habitats apart is that by combining both our design and delivery departments we can streamline the building of landscapes to complete a quality project on-time and within budget without compromising the design intent.” He credits the experienced Natural Habitats team of around 160 staff as a key factor in the success of projects. Lance says Natural Habitats is seeking more great staff around the country to meet demand. “If you’re a person who loves the outdoors and watching things grow it’s a great job so get in touch.” Creating a design re ective of area and history.
