56 | Summerset Villages: Summerset by the Dunes LIFESTYLE Modern retirement living The central hub of a Summerset village is the village centre building, featuring a range of facilities, including an indoor swimming pool and spa, a residents’ café, a cinema, and gym. Summerset by the Dunes brings modern retirement living to the relaxed coastal community of Papamoa. Part of the Summerset portfolio of vibrant retirement villages across the country, the village in Manawa Road is currently under construction. Once completed the village will offer more than 280 quality, modern homes to choose from including villas, cottages, serviced apartments, as well as assisted in-care centre rooms and apartments in industry-leading memory care suites. The central hub of a Summerset village is the village centre building. In addition to containing the in-care and memory care centres at Papamoa, this lively village hub will feature a range of facilities, including an indoor swimming pool and spa, a residents’ café, a cinema, and gym. “Not only is it great news for the village to have this facility, it’s also a win for the local suppliers and employment market, with the village providing jobs for about 250 people during construction,” says Gert Venter, Summerset’s Village Manager at Papamoa. Construction on the village centre started in July 2021 and is expected to be complete in the latter half of 2023. Summerset villages are built for their environment and the Papamoa village centre building is the latest rendition of Summerset’s standard design. Constructed of concrete and steel with a mix of brick, block and rockcote to the façade with a metal long run roof, the 9000m2 village centre floorspace is laid out over 3 storeys. Richard Loader Summerset Papamoa Construction Project Manager Steve Wood says with a firm commitment to sustainability, Summerset has implemented new waste recycling targets that will see the project contribute significantly to the overall company targets. “Construction has focused on building resilience to earthquakes, flooding and storms using current seismic design throughout the building. “ Summerset has also implemented a bore that will service the village’s landscaping requirements reducing the draw on mains water. “The project has also created a stormwater basin to assist in high rain events and flooding. Environmentally, the building is designed to be built with sustainable materials where achievable and which are appropriate to the location.” Key contractors involved in the project are Bay Civil Construction, Livingstone Building NZ who is doing structure and carpentry, while Aquaholics has been engaged to do the plumbing work, Guild & Spence the electrical and networking, and Wight Aluminium the external joinery/windows and doors. Gert Venter says what makes Summerset by the Dunes special is that it is a hidden retirement oasis tucked away in a quiet cul-desac in a developing area of Papamoa Beach. “The village is close to popular Mount Maunganui and Tauranga CBD, there’s always something to do in the village or outside the village. The beautiful Papamoa beachfront is only 20 minutes stroll from the village gate, and the stunning Tauranga weather ensures you can do this walk for most of the days in the year.” Residents and families alike love the safety, security, and peace of mind that village life brings, and when it comes to taking care of the boring bits, Summerset makes it easy. A dedicated village team looks after home maintenance and repairs, and residents can choose to have their gardening done as well if they wish, leaving more spare time to spend with family and friends. “When the village centre is complete, everything residents need will be right at their fingertips — from an onsite café to a movie theatre, to a friendly caring community and a full continuum of care including state of the art memory care centre.” “Not only is it great news for the village to have this facility, it’s also a win for the local suppliers and employment market, with the village providing jobs for about 250 people during construction.” Proud to be associated with Livingstone Building Apex Scaffolding Servicing Bay of Plenty & The Waikato 0800 273 972 www.apexscaffolding.co.nz
