58 | DEVELOPMENT Yungulla Property Trust: Peakedale Estate ‘Community spirit’ strong drawcard Richard Loader “Geographically Matamata is becoming quite popular. We are seeing the older generation moving out of the bigger cities to live somewhere that is quieter, and we are also seeing the younger generation who don’t mind commuting to Hamilton, Tauranga or Rotorua.” to page 60 Proudly taking its name from Peak Dale, a quaint country village in the Peaks District of Derbyshire, England, the Peakedale Estate residential development nestles the fringes of the increasingly popular Waikato township of Matamata. The development is being driven by Yungulla Property Trust. Established forty years ago by Jennian Homes’ founders Ian and Jenny Patton, the family Trust has a long history of successfully delivering high-quality property development projects throughout Hamilton and Cambridge. Peakedale Estate consists of 78 individual residential sections, each around 700sqm, spread across three stages, with the third stage completed in February this year. All 34 stage three sections have been sold, with 20 houses already well under construction. Of the first two stages, only one section is yet to be built on. A fourth stage encompassing 13 sites and designed as a ‘pocket village’ for over the 50s preferring a smaller maintenance free section and smaller home is expected to commence later this year. Further stages will also be opened up by another developer at a future time. Commenting on the impressive response to the development, Callum Patton, Peakedale Estate’s Development Manager, says that over the last few years there has been unprecedented growth in Waikato’s townships like Matamata, Cambridge, Morrinsville, and Te Awamutu, because of that exodus from Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga. “Geographically Matamata is becoming quite popular. We are seeing the older generation moving out of the bigger cities to live somewhere that is quieter, and we are also seeing the younger generation who don’t mind commuting to Hamilton, Tauranga or Rotorua. Matamata is very central to those towns. It is also about what you can get for your money. As larger cities become more unaffordable the younger generation have looked to smaller rural town centres for a better work life balance.” Matamata’s small size and established landscape makes Peakedale’s location an easy walk to the township’s schools, parks and reserves. “Peakedale Estate’s character delivers a community spirit that embraces a broad cross section of people who feel proud of their new homes and where they live,” says Callum. “We have achieved a development where people can have a nice high quality new home that has a high amenity value. “The homes are mostly three and four bedroom standalone, double garage houses. “A number of sections, scattered throughout the Estate, were allocated to group home builders like Milestone Homes, Generation Homes, Bennett Homes and Golden Homes for house and land packages which has worked well for us.
