For process automation company Nemesys Ltd, its ive core values of Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, Respect and Balance are at the heart of all decision making from its recruitment process right through to procurement. Basing decisions on those core values has resulted in very low sta turnover and a strong team that has lourished, says company founder Rex Robinson. “Those values are not just words; they have real meaning behind them. Integrity means being true to our word. Teamwork is working together positively to achieve a common goal. Excellence is challenging ourselves to grow, develop and achieve our highest level. Respect is to value and recognise others. And Balance is making time for work, rest and play. Those values were originally mine, but they have been revisited by the company as a whole and tweaked periodically Leading the way with technical expertise to ensure they are still valid across the business. Building relationships is a key part of what we do as a business and we ind that our values make it easy for us to build relationships.” With a strong technical background in software engineering and process automation Rex founded Nemesys in 2008 when he saw an opportunity to provide another option for client’s seeking process automation solutions. From a one-man operation delivering services from home, Rex’s vision has grown to a cohesive team of 22 professionals operating out of Hamilton, including a team of software engineers in Invercargill and Taranaki. “With the food and beverage industry our core customer sector, we operate throughout New Zealand. A lot of our work is in dairy/meat processing and Water/Wastewater plants. We also operate in Australia having involvement in various dairy plant projects. We are also currently working on a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) project for Frucor Suntory in Brisbane.” The technical expertise that the Nemesys team bring to its project is a complementary combination of software engineering and process engineering. “Our operations include control system design, and the development of functional speci ications for the projects we work on. Our software engineers use this information to develop the programmes. Very broadly, we automate a processing plant, so that the operators run the factory at the touch of a button. The process starts with consultation with the customer to understand their business and the processes that they wish to automate, so that a set of detailed requirements can be produced. We can then recommend any technology required to facilitate the automation and can supply the proprietary automation hardware. Post development, we go through a rigorous simulation phase to identify and resolve any issues before we get to commission the new technology on site.” Nemesys was engaged by Apex Water to complete the wastewater automation of the new Olam Food Ingredients site in Tokoroa. “Nemesys have also been engaged to complete the automation of the main production and services areas on the rest of the Olam site including boiler interfacing. We just started the commissioning phase two weeks ago.” While Nemesys is in the business of delivering complex technical solutions, it is also a values-based company, and that makes a real di erence to its customers and the people who work for it to deliver the results.
