Turton Builders T T Russell Fredric BUILDING For Turton Builders, the business is not about the volume of production but the kind of attention to detail that makes the difference between builders and craftsmen. Co-director Brad Turton sums up the Hamilton company’s passion for excellence in design and build quality: “Every build or development that we do, we like to do something a little bit different. We like to walk away and be proud of what we have created. Each is a unique build or a unique home.” The company was founded by Brad’s father Bruce Turton over 25 years ago. He has more than 40 years experience as a qualified builder and his expertise, impressive precision and attention to detail is well regarded in the Waikato. Brad joined the business 14 years ago after completing his apprenticeship with another building firm that specialised in commercial work. Consequently, he adds a practical understanding of various methods of construction and of the wider industry as well as a strong design aesthetic to Turton Builders which undertakes both residential and commercial work. For builds initiated by clients, Turton Builders can work from a design provided or develop a plan from scratch. “A lot of existing clients that we’ve done work for in the past, have us involved at the very beginning of the process. “A good architect is worth their weight in gold, but engaging a builder early in the design process is a good way to balance the design flair of an architect and the experience of the builder,” Brad says. The builder can advise the most pragmatic and economical way to achieve the client’s and architect’s vision while accounting for the nature of building materials and methodology to create a durable house that will perform well and withstand the elements for many decades, Brad says. Turton Builders is also part of Tristram Developments which undertakes high quality residential projects, predominantly architecturally designed stand-a-lone and duplex homes. Their current development located in Tamihana Ave, and currently for sale, is a perfect example of the type of development and standard of design and workmanship the company aims for. The site comprises a stand-alone unit of 199sqm and duplex units, of 194sqm and 189sqm. Designed by Turner Road Architecture and perfect for modern, low maintenance lifestyles, each is two story, three bedrooms with an ensuite in the master, a main bathroom plus a powder room and an internal access double garage. The location is a short stroll to the Waikato River and within close proximity to the city centre and is zoned for Woodstock Primary School. On the exterior, striking design elements combine with Eurotray colour steel complemented by accents of vertical shiplap cedar and a stylish Canterbury Clay Bricks product. The interior, designed by Turton Interiors, presents a solid selection of warm and sleek interiors using combinations that will stand the test of time for any owner. A commercial project currently in progress is a new 445sqm building for an existing client, designed by Edwards White Architects in Hamilton City Centre. It is clad in Equitone, a pre-finished fibre cement product that is available in a variety of textures and profiles and “definitely looks very cool”, Brad says. “The architects have done a great job with the design of this bespoke building.” “Every build or development that we do, we like to do something a little bit different.”
