Uncompromising quality is a key motivator for Mount Maunganui based residential builder Zeal Home and Renovation. A newcomer in the residential market, having been established two years ago, Zeal is thriving in the ever growing city of Tauranga and employs a team of nine, including an apprentice and a trainee, plus owner Brad McNamara. “We offer an end-to-end design and build service from concept to completion, so our projects generally start by meeting with a client to discuss their priorities and we develop it from there,” Brad says. “Our projects are usually one-off bespoke builds, which means there’s more things to overcome on the design side, but that means we can offer the client exactly what they want, rather than what’s available with some of the group home builders.” Brad’s professional background is in managing high value, large scale construction projects, public use buildings and apartments. He has drawn on this experience, making the transition to residential builds and complex renovations meaning Zeal’s clientele can be assured of its credibility and ability to deliver. Consequently, Brad and his team do not shy away from challenging projects that require thinking out of the box which can sometimes be the case with larger renovations. “We have a number of projects currently under construction. Most of these sit in the $100,000 to $500,000 range which is the market that the company has really positioned itself in.” “We could scale from there, but we need to keep a focus on where we want to be in the market, and make sure we keep things personalised.” A weatherboard Papamoa beach house is a perfect example of a radical renovation project that was a word-of-mouth referral that Zeal Home and Renovation loves to tackle. “It was a local family that wanted to add some value and utility to their home.” “I did some drafts, spoke with the stakeholders and thrashed out the preliminary designs. Once we decided on what we wanted to do I took that through developed design with my draftee Carl Read and engineers and we put a budget in place and started with it.” Zeal was designing a three storey family home, but needed the home to have the option of ground floor living if mobility became a problem in the future. Because it will be the “forever” home for the owner, it needed provision for accessible facilities. “Her main focus was having a home to live in rather than building something as a commodity. The reading nook off the master bedroom was a must and she wanted a three sided glass fireplace in the lounge and a large Shaker-style kitchen with solid surfaces.” “There’s little more than a memory left of the original house because we opened it up and extended the floors out both sides and added a third storey loft space and stairwell to capitalise on the sea peeps.” The exterior is clad in horizontal weatherWater Corp NZ For all your plumbing, gas & drainage requirements 027 552 9285 watercorpnz@hotmail.com watercorpnz watercorpnz
