Premium Construction T T Sue Russell BUILDING Premium Construction Ltd is owned by Trevor Willis, who is also a half owner in Premium Civil, an earthmoving company. Based in Greenhithe north Auckland, Premium Construction was established 20 years ago. Trevor has been in building since he was 15 years old and now, in his early 50s has a wealth of experience to bring to the table. It’s this longevity that has cemented Premium Construction’s reputation, particularly when building their specialty, high-end bespoke residences. “We mainly focus on the North Shore but we’ve completed builds on the Coromandel and in Greater Auckland,” says Samantha, Trevor’s wife who is involved in the business. Samantha describes Greenhithe as rather old-worldly and very family focussed; a lovely part of Auckland they have lived in for 23 years. Along with building for clients, often repeat, Premium Construction also takes on its own projects, shifting an old home off a section and building a new spec home for sale. When doing their own builds, they utilise the services and expertise of Simon Pirie Architects while Samantha takes care of all the interior design. Working with Trevor is a team of eight leaving him free to project manage. At any one time it is typical to have two or three projects on the go at various stages of completion. The current size of the business works well Trevor says, given they can work as smaller teams, with an experienced leading-hand or can combine on the larger, more demanding projects. As a builder who was supported himself to become qualified through an apprenticeship Trevor has always had apprentices learning their craft. When Business North spoke with Samantha the business had two apprentices undergoing training. “All five of our senior team have done their apprenticeships through Premium Construction. “ The builders know each other well and this makes for a positive working environment with great quality outcomes.” The current spec home is in Roland Road, Greenhithe; one of the settlements more established streets and Samantha says its very typical of the standard of work and size of build the company is known for. “We take care of every part of the build and the landscaping around. This home has a large louvred deck with an outside kitchen, wood burning fire and a spa pool built into the pool area. Its a lovely home and its designed with a family lifestyle in mind.” Given the size and scale of this home Samantha says they only tackle one spec build at a time and she expects the home will be on the market this coming summer. Samantha says one thing that is lovely about the business is its family focus. The team often get together for social trips, movie nights with partners and family included. “That’s the thing we really love about the business after all these years in this district.
