Linecrest Homes BUILDING Back in 2017, when a social drink provided an opportunity to reflect on their business future, Cambridge-based Luke and Nikki Jones, along with brother-in-law Steve, decided to take ownership of their destiny, seeing a gap in the market for well designed and built homes that also ticked style and functionality boxes. “We decided this was the time to create our brand and Linecrest Homes was born,” says Nikki. Guided very much by building to a standard the team would be happy to live in, Linecrest Homes some six years later has established a firm place in the local community and further afield around greater Waikato. And to give potential clients a real sense of what Linecrest calls its quality standard, the couple built a show-home which today is their own home. This prompted the decision to enter the home in the Builders Own category of the Waikato region House of the Year award 2022 where it won gold. The year before Linecrest Homes took out Gold and Regional Winner in the New Build $450,000 - $600,000 category. “We knew our show-home, which became our own home, was something very special. The craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout was recognised by the judges and that’s the very best accolade we could have received.” Judges noted the 318sqm four bedroom plus office family home has been designed with life-style in mind. The kitchen sits adjacent to a substantial scullery and the home features two living areas and two bathrooms. Noted especially was the standard of the outdoor living spaces, with a sizable portico creating plenty of space for outdoor dining, looking out to lawns and a large in-ground swimming pool. “It’s our home now and it’s just a lovely design with plenty of room for us all.” Linecrest Homes Ltd is a small team of builders. Working with Luke on site are two builders, Jaryd and Jarrad (known as Junior). Nikki takes care of client relationships and administration support, while Steve and his partner Caitlyn enjoy contributing to design and styling aspects of the builds. Acknowledging that the last few years brought its fair share of challenges and disruptions to supply chains, Nikki says they were very proud to have stuck to their build timelines. “It came down to good organisation and communication.” A large part of business these days is in building their own developments and Nikki says this works well, balanced with builds for customers. At any one time there will likely be two or three home builds at different stages of construction. And asked about whether future aspirations extend to growing much bigger Nikki says in time there will be some growth. “I don’t think we want to get really big. It’s important for me and Luke that we are directly engaged with every build and in maintaining strong relationships with our suppliers and customers alike. The work we do requires a hands-on approach, a small team with a high attention to detail.” When Business North spoke with Nikki the company had four House and Land homes in the process of construction. Two in Richmond Street, one in Cambridge Park and another in a new Cambridge subdivision called Kotare Park.
