The home’s chic minimalist kitchen with butler’s pantry and adjacent dining and living all flow to the beachy outdoors and raised deck on the north side. Tauranga interior designer Amber Elliston, of Amber Interiors, is thrilled to have been part of the project team for a shortlisted home in the 2023 Waikato and Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards. Getting to know the client is always a key focus for Amber. In the case of this large beachside family home at Papamoa, she already knew the homeowners very well having previously worked with them on other projects for 10 years or more. “That made the whole journey so much fun. This project was a dream – I loved it. I worked with both the architect – Jeremy Brick, of Studio Brick Architects – and the owners on exterior colours and did the whole interior including curtains, blinds and furniture. It was an open table situation. I know the homeowners and their tastes, so basically I was just adding to that. They were very open to my suggestions. It was a collaboration that worked really well.” Cedar and oak feature prominently in this home, echoed in some of the Mid Century furniture pieces. In keeping with the streamlined architecture and the clients’ minimalist preferences, the interior is uncluttered and calming. A core focus was to establish a strong connection with the beach Infusing a dreamy beach home with coastal character environment and Amber looked for natural colours and textures that would tell that story. “I love the tile elements in the bathrooms but the kitchen is the real standout with its simple style and understated elegance. Everyone involved was proud to contribute and go the extra mile. For example, a lot of work went into pattern matching the beautiful island bench from top to loor and it really paid o . “There are so many special details throughout. One of my favourites is the custom made pendant light over the dining table, made of individual slats all carefully pieced together, [Maker design, Tauranga].” Tauranga born and bred, Amber launched her local private interior design business in 2010, specialising in curtains and blinds, colour consultations, home staging and styling. Today, the two-person team works throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region. Their portfolio of projects spans showhomes, lifestyle villages and commercial projects, but Amber’s true passion is residential interiors. “I love working with clients, listening to them and getting to know them. It is what drives every project. For me, this is also what makes every project so unique and rewarding.” “Our belief is that clients should not be told what to do with their homes, we are there to listen and help to make their vision come true. Your home should always be a reflection of you.” ∙ Interior Design ∙ Specialists in Window Treatments - Curtains and Blinds ∙ Colour Consultations AMBER INTERIORS AMBER ELLISTON - INTERIOR DESIGNER 027 555 1637 | amber@amberinteriors.co.nz DITA SISMILICH - INTERIOR DESIGNER 021 782 863 | dita@amberinteriors.co.nz www.amberinteriors.co.nz
