24 | Mitre 10 NZ Limited - Gibson O’Connor: Silverdale Development Around 120 staff at new store The Silverdale Mitre 10 MEGA retail area will be just under 6000sqm with the garden centre and drive through at about 2000sqm each. from page 22 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Grant says that internally the new store will have all the familiar features that customers will be well used to in Mitre 10’s large format megastores. “There will be large outdoor furniture displays, and dedicated areas set aside for kitchen, bathroom and paint displays. “We really pride ourselves in delivering a great customer experience, making sure customers can get all their home improvement needs from the one place. Particularly in the garden centre, we see that as being a real opportunity in this area. “There’s a lot of new housing, so we want to be able to support that, particularly as people are doing their landscaping and planting, by having the products and services available to meet their needs.” Grant says Mitre 10 has several ways to make store navigation customer friendly and easy, including the large navigational signs indicating the location of key products. The new store will also have electronic shelf labels. “We will also have greeters in the store to help them find what they’re after. And we always encourage customers just to ask any of the team who will be able to take them to anything they wish to find. “We want to make sure people can get everything they need — be that a home improvement customer doing work over the weekend through to your professional tradie. “Since Covid, we’re seeing more people spending more time at home and wanting to see how they can improve their homes and their DIY skills.” With a combination of full time and part time staff across a diverse range of roles, between 100 and 120 staff will be employed in the new store, and Grant says Mitre 10 is looking forward to offering those jobs to the community. “We acknowledge that there’s a lot of competition for staff right now, and we will be looking to provide an environment that people really enjoy working in.” THORBURN CONSULTANTS (NZ) LTD www.thorburn.co.nz Working with MITRE 10 for over 12 years Thorburns are proud to be the lead designers for the new store in Silverdale.
