Work is now commencing on the basement, which will offer around 25 carparks. Richard says that building in the pandemic environment has been a real challenge, as it has for most building firms, re pricing, lack of material supply and labour. “A commitment to, and belief in, the project has been key. We have a magnificent site and tenant and are excited to be a part of revitalising downtown Tauranga. When the building is complete it will bring 500-600 people into the main street, which should make a big difference,” say Richard. Other projects underway including the new council premises and the new Farmers building on the same road will all add to the inner city mix after many traditional retailers moved to the shopping centres resulting in the city centre becoming stagnant. Tauranga City Council has adopted the City Centre Action and Investment Plan 2022-2032, which will further underpin change. Tauranga’s CBD Blueprint showcases the exponential growth in development that’s expected to take place in Tauranga’s CBD from 2022 to 2030. The aims, according to Tauranga’s economic development agency Priority One, is to promote the reinstatement of Tauranga’s city centre as the civic, commercial, and cultural capital of the Bay of Plenty. It includes 20 major catalyst developments that are committed for the city before 2030 to transform Tauranga’s CBD into a thriving part of the city. “We are pleased to be at the forefront and a big part of revitalisation. Those of us involved have been in Tauranga for a long time and are excited to see projects like these happening.” Craigs Investment Partners will take the top four floors and the ground floor will be service providers including retail and restaurants. Two floors are available for lease and will be marketed through Bayleys’ commercial arm in Tauranga when it is completed by Dec 2024. “We expect it to be an in demand space.
