| 49 ENGINEERING Page Macrae Engineering Perry Metal Protection has supported Page Macrae and other structural fabricators with galvanising assemblies for the Tauhara Power Station project in Taupō. Tauhara is a 168MW geothermal steam turbine power station that will be Contact Energy’s sixth geothermal power station in the area. Perry’s have worked with fabricators such as Page Macrae ensuring support pipes, beams and assemblies are designed to it inside their largest galvanising bath in Hamilton, which has the capacity to single dip up to 9.3m and double dip up to 18m. A collaborative approach between Page Macrae and Ken Tynan, Perry Metal Protection’s Depot Manager, who has worked for the Company for 45 years, ensured all items could be galvanised and delivered to site within the required time frame. This meant planning and construction dates would be achieved, without unnecessary delays on the project. They are also completing project work for other subcontractors including galvanising in excess of 150 tonnes of structural components. Ken says that our Hamilton bath gives us the capacity and capability to deliver these types of large-scale projects. Angela Williams, Northern Region Manager, says customers are Capacity and capability also now choosing galvanising because of its climate smart durability. Galvanised steel is a low embodied carbon product with low maintenance over its life cycle, versus any alternative coating systems such as the traditional blast and paint application, she says. Perry Metal Protection has been protecting steel through hot dip galvanising since the early 1970’s. It operates in galvanising plants in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch as well as a collection depot in Tauranga.
