| 61 Du Val Group: Mountain Vista Estate DEVELOPMENT A wholly owned subsidiary of Taranakipine, Woodspan Ltd has been part of Du Val Group’s successful journey in townhouse development projects since 2019, supplying fully inished engineered PLT (parallel laminated timber) looring and roo ing panels for close to three hundred townhouses in that time. Woodspan’s CEO Tom Boon says there has been a real partnership relationship with Du Val from day one. “Their team visited us in New Plymouth, looked at what we do and started this evolution of re inement, and that has continued. With Du Val’s construction and design team working with us, they have re ined their methodology for building townhouse developments, matching it really well to our PLT panels, along with products from other companies. Likewise, we modi ied our system. So, there’s been a real e ort to systemise the construction methodology.” The e iciency for Du Val is the speed of build, compared to carpenters cutting one piece of timber at a time. Tom says, Du Val can complete a project several months earlier than they would otherwise, enabling them to realise revenue much earlier and move onto the next project. “Du Val’s design team provide us with a loor design, for example, which might be for seven townhouses. Three Efficiency with PLT panels hundred PLT panels might be needed to cover the whole area. With the design team we will develop shop drawings for each panel. That drawing is uploaded into our CNC machine which has a robot head that automatically activates all the cutting tools, so that all carpentry is done through a machine. The panels are then stacked in order and transported to the building site, ready for the crane to lift into place.” Targeting New Zealand’s construction industry, Woodspan was founded in 2018 by Tom and Blair Thomson and born from a movement that had been happening particularly in Europe and North America towards using engineered timber products that were fully inished in the factory, and delivered to the building site. “We wanted to be part of this movement towards low carbon, more sustainable building products, and developed PLT giving it the Woodspan brand name. It’s becoming widely understood that wood is a very sustainable building material, in comparison to other building materials, and we’re seeing a whole demand from speci iers for sustainable building materials that enable a more energy e icient home. We’re doing projects throughout New Zealand. Mid-rise residential including townhouses and apartments is our target market.” Family owned and operated business with over 20 years combined experience, The Garage Door Co have a vast knowledge of all garage door types, and handle the job from installation through to service and repair.
