64 | Rangitahi Kim Newth Outdoor lifestyle beckons at Rangitahi DEVELOPMENT A Raglan farming family with a vision to provide land for others wanting to enjoy the vibrant seaside destination and its laidback lifestyle is now fast taking shape on the Rangitahi Peninsula. The Peacocke family has made a huge contribution to the peninsula’s natural coastal environment through extensive planting of native trees and shrubs that are encouraging proliferation of native bird populations. Community fruit trees have been established around the peninsula too, including a table grape vineyard, a stone fruit orchard, citrus and feijoa trees, avocados and an olive grove. For Rangitahi residents, the outdoor lifestyle is beguiling, with shoreline walking tracks on the doorstep and easy access to water recreation. Seeking a simpler, more relaxed lifestyle, surrounded by nature, is what brings people to this unique community. Many have taken advantage of today’s more flexible work arrangements that allow for remote work practices. “This is such a beautiful place with so much to offer, including some of the world’s best surf.” “We have quite a number of residents here on the peninsula who work from home or split their week between Hamilton – only 45 minutes away – and Rangitahi,” says project general manager Sam Laity. “This is such a beautiful place with so much to offer, including some of the world’s best surf. The fishing is amazing too and we’re so close to Raglan, a drawcard in its own right with a plethora of cafes and a vibrant arts and crafts scene.” Undulating land contours on the peninsula have naturally inspired a diversity of unique architecture, with a design review process ensuring that homes are of good quality and reflect an ethos of sustainability. “We are anticipating an exciting year ahead. Our design review panel is seeing some amazing designs coming through and a good mix of styles; there are some stunning new builds coming up. By the end of 2023, we will have some 200 families living here and will be a third of the way through the project.” Some 70 homes have been built to date, with another 65 under construction. Most new residents are coming from the Waikato region or Auckland. The growing community is providing a welcome boost for the wider Raglan economy. Sam says local builders and tradespeople have plenty of work, and Raglan’s retail, hospitality and arts scene is bustling too. New families are welcome at Rangitahi, where 25 sections are now available at The Landing. Sections range from 375sqm to 900sqm, priced from $435,000. All have great views to the east and connect with a large public reserve with easy access into the water. It’s a perfect spot for family outdoor adventures. Those who prefer turnkey packages can check out Rangitahi’s West Village, (where new homes are expected to be completed within 18 months of commencement). Developed by The Parsons Project and designed by Red Architecture, this new contemporary village offers a diverse collection of sustainable, cost effective, community orientated homes that prioritise sun and water views. Care has been taken to select a sympathetic palette of natural materials. West Village options are listed on Trade Me. Across the road from West Village are half a dozen completed apartments, (‘North Point’). Rangitahi’s small village centre will also include an 80-seat café. Expressions of interest are currently being sought for an experienced operator to lease the café that will be the hub of this growing community. (Enquire with Bayleys, Listing ID 2313784). “We’re really excited to be starting construction of the Rangitahi Café next year. The café building will also have offices on the top level and space for a small retail shop.” A new reserve planned for next year will add a tennis court, a half-basketball court and a children’s playground to existing amenities. Other facilities in the pipeline include a childcare centre and an indoor public swimming pool.
