Focus on sustainability - page 84 Hamilton based Karl Kampenhout Builder has done it again. Renowned for its award winning homes the company has taken out the top accolade in Waikato for the second time, the Regional Supreme House of the Year in the homes over $1m category at the 2022 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition. The contemporary modern home in Pukete is elevated above its suburban setting and enjoys 360-degree views of the mountains and native bush as well as overlooking the Waikato River. Karl says the use of the cantilevered steel structure from the first floor of the building enhances the bush and river views. It’s just one aspect of a complex design with the lower level boasting a two-storey glass atrium entry. The upper floor level exterior has been complimented by using a profiled metal wall cladding and ascents of a light stained band sawn redwood cedar. The lower level has a ‘Celcrete’ plastered base, which has a special coating that incorporates both a unique colour and texture. The remainder of the lower level also has the profiled metal wall cladding and ascents of cedar to the covered deck area. Crafted elements form a big part of the special home including a solid oak monorail staircase and oak feature blades leading up to the main living space upon arrival. The use of built-in hand-crafted cabinetry throughout the home and a hand-crafted kitchen and separate scullery results in an incredibly high standard of finishing. Other special features include solid oak timber flooring, cedar sarking to the vaulted ceiling in the main living areas and LED feature lighting to exterior cedar screens. The home has comfort and sustainability at its heart. It features Mammoth insulation throughout all the exterior walls, ceilings and midfloor. The ventilated roof systems help the home breath, and not overheat the roof cavity space within the hottest months of the year. All timbers that have been used for the exterior cladding and decks are FSC rated. The APL architectural joinery suite incorporates the uses of Solux Low E glazing and there are rainwater collection storage tanks. Karl says that the overall footprint of the “A lot of things had to align and come together. I’m super proud of the team, from the foremen to the apprentices, and all the subcontractors involved.” home has minimal impact on the environment and all existing native trees and bush were protected, the home being built around them. A special aspect of the project is that it was undertaken for repeat clients demonstrating Karl Kampenhout Builder’s focus on helping clients long-term who often become friends. “It was a complex build undertaken during a couple of lockdowns and with pandemic related supply issues. We cut our own frames and rafters, laid our own timber flooring and all while navigating a challenging site with restricted access. “A lot of things had to align and come together. I’m super proud of the team, from the foremen to the apprentices, and all the subcontractors involved. “It shows the consistency of the extremely high quality of build we deliver for our clients. That’s what I’m most proud of.” Brick and Block Laying | Residential Exterior Bricking on New Homes | Plaster Brick Systems Brick Fences | Concrete Blocks & Block Foundations | Feature Walls Repair Work and Insurance Claim Work | Hinuera Stone Cladding | Brick Letterboxes OUR TRUSTED SUPPLIERS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS AFFILIATIONS CALL US NOW 027 474 6654 PROUD TO SUPPORT KARL KAMPENHOUT BUILDER STOP I Plasterers Ltd Judd 027 23 000 70 “For a superior interior” stopitplasterers@gmail.com Proud to be associated with Karl Kampenhout Builder Ltd • Free Quotes • Personal Service • Sound Advice 021 986 127 • jamie@floorman.co.nz Polished Concrete and Timber Floors.
