MANUFACTURING Bourneville Furniture Group The commercial office environment is rapidly changing shape and its furniture requirements are almost unrecognisable from what they were prior to Covid. Since 1969, Bourneville Furniture Group (BFG) has been transforming workspaces and adapting to changing technologies and working styles with comfortable, functional, adaptable, and sustainable New Zealand made furniture. BFG works with many of New Zealand’s largest government, corporate, tertiary, and healthcare organisations to provide furniture design, manufacture, space planning, project management, installation, relocation, and furniture refurbishment services. BFG Group operates from a 3000sqm purpose built manufacturing facility and administration offices based in Onehunga. With joinery, steel, engineering, upholstery, assembly, dispatch, installation, and administration all under one roof, BFG is a unique facility with the ability to handle and output large volumes as required. BFG managing director Clifton Webb says the traditional desk is nowadays the least of office fit out requirements, with a new style of working environment brought about by Covid and working from home. During lockdowns, BFG was quick to react with a new line of kitset desks for customers to send out to their own staff for their new home office. “Coming back from lockdowns, people still wanted to work from home,” Clifton says. “We have been talking about the agile office and the ability to work anywhere for a long time, and Covid quickly accelerated that requirement. People wanted to come to the office to meet up with people then go back home to do their work. “So today’s office furniture is less about desks and more about meeting pods, meeting tables, leaners, and soft, upholstered seating.” As agile/hybrid working becomes more and more prevalent in the workplace, so does the need for desk booking technology and smart locker storage solutions. BFG integrates this technology into its furniture solutions to allow users to book desks, lockers, and spaces remotely, before heading in to the office. BFG customers are also seeking a more sustainable furniture solution as they aim for improvements in both bottom line and environmental impact. Government, corporate, and tertiary organisations in particular are becoming a lot more focused on broader outcomes and the whole of life of their furniture. BFG embraces this approach with durable solid wood products and growing joinery and upholstery departments providing more refurbishing and repurposing services. “In the past 12 months we have really noticed that every one dollar has to go that much further. “Our customers are asking us to have a look at what they already have and give them a quote on refurbishing it, rather than send it to landfill. They are very aware of the environmental impact of discarding old furniture and buying in new.” As a manufacturer, BFG’s own environmental impact is always at the forefront of its operations. BFG only uses New Zealand raw materials in its manufactured product items, and all solid wood used is New Zealand pine from sustainable wood forests. New Zealand Tube Mills manufactures all of BFG’s steel, and its aluminium dies are held with Ulrich Aluminium. BFG’s manufacturing and operations are fully ISO 14001 accredited and Telarc registered for ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems, ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety, and ISO 9001 – Quality Management. BFG has a fantastic team of staff with a variety of skills to transform work spaces into productive environments that people love to work in. From account and project management to administration, design, spatial planning, installation, and delivery execution, BFG will tailor a furniture solution designed around your business goals and workplace strategy. “... today’s office furniture is less about desks and more about meeting pods, meeting tables, leaners, and soft, upholstered seating.” PROUD TO SUPPORT THE BOURNEVILLE FURNITURE GROUP
