Taking out Regional Gold, Outdoor Living, Interior Design, and the New Home $1.5 million to $2 million category for the Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau, and a Top 100 award, a 369sqm home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms has been skillfully built to make the most of its views without distracting from them. Widespread glazing and multiple connections to expansive decking and an outdoor room with louvres put this home in pole position for the view of the harbour at the bottom of the garden. Inside, the bedrooms and living rooms all enjoy a marine outlook, and if residents want to dine alfresco, there is also a sheltered patio tucked away from the sea breeze. Gudsell Builders also brought home awards for a brand new show home this year, winning the Regional Gold and a Top 100 award for a high-calibre home whose intention is to showcase quality craftsmanship and is therefore, executed to perfection. “It wasn’t to be about all the new gadgets and appliances we could throw into a house,” Matt says. “That’s why you’ll see the whole thing is timber inside and out so we can emphasise the work we can do.” The impressive rusticated cedar home has a front row seat to Tauranga Harbour, with sheltered outdoor rooms. Inside, 252sqm comprises three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a separate lounge, a double garage, and a large open plan space on the upper level, accessed via lift or staircase, with water views to the front and centre. The finishing is as spectacular as the view. Hemlock ceilings knit perfectly with bandsawn plywood walls, while negative detailing does away with the need for architraves and skirting. “You won’t find a fault in it,” Matt says. “All the guys that work for us, that’s what they do.
