Owned by Dave Tonkin and Mark Holland, MD Aluminium offers the complete supply, installation and glazing package to the residential and commercial construction industries, with the help of its computerised cutting and CNC machinery. Providing a showroom where clients can view and operate fully functioning doors and windows, MD Aluminium has a staff of 30 at its manufacturing plant, and offers a free measure-and-quote service. “We offer practical solutions in design, glazing and hardware, with materials supplied by the highly regarded Fairview range of leading door and window extrusions,” Dave says. “We have more than 30 years of experience in the manufacture and installation of aluminium joinery, and our technology includes the latest punches from Italy, and custom-built trailers with A-frames that can be pre-loaded and fork-lifted on to trailers to speed up deliveries. “We set ourselves apart from the rest through listening to our customers’ requirements and then applying our experience to develop the best solution for them. We pride ourselves on delivering a quality product on time.” Working from 2000sqm premises, and with its own staff backed up by contracted glaziers and installers, MD Aluminium was launched by Dave and Mark with just three employees in 2006. Dave has a background in sales and Mark in aluminium and related manufacturing, and together they have focused on constantly improving their business processes by adopting the latest proven technologies. “We offer a complete service, supplying not just the joinery but also teams that are highly experienced in installation and glazing,” Dave says. “Our constant innovation results in improved business processes that provide customers with a competitive, high-quality product.” The Fairview range of inputs is supplied by the Fairview Metal Industries (FMI) Group, a New Zealand-owned company founded in 1968 to supply independent fabricators throughout the country. Initially established in Timaru, FMI later moved its operations to Auckland where, coincidentally, its headquarters are located on Timaru Place, Mount Wellington. FMI also has glass factories in both Auckland and Christchurch. Of mounting significance to MD Aluminium clients is the company’s response to government-driven changes in the H1 R rating performance of new houses, intended to increase warmth and weather-tightness. “Our quoting package is unique because we’re able to include a complete Thermal Performance Report to go with our aluminium joinery quotes, so that clients know exactly the performance they can expect from our products,” Dave says. MD Aluminium has managed to grow steadily through the past couple of years of the economic and construction downturn, increasing its output and market share when other companies were struggling. “That says a lot about the service we offer Auckland construction companies, whether they are servicing the residential or construction markets,” Dave says. “It comes from the fact that we had an overall vision for the business when we established it, which was to be a leading supplier of aluminium joinery throughout the Auckland region, producing joinery for three distinct markets: residential, architectural and commercial. “This is what ensured our continuing to thrive and grow during the difficult times that we hope are now passing, thanks to cuts in interest rates that look certain to provide a major stimulus to the construction markets. “Having come through the tough times with flying colours, we’re poised to make the most of the improving economy, and to cement our reputation as high-quality and innovative manufacturers and suppliers,” Dave says. “We can fairly say we’ve become a market leader in the Auckland region and are set for further growth.” Making themost For ideas and information about our windows and doors talk to MDAluminium on 09 836 6922 Clelands Timber Products have over a 100 years’ experience in the timber industry and produce a CodeMark approved Complete Waterboard System. • WEATHERBOARDS • DRESSED FOUR SIDES • WINDOW REVEALS • MOULDINGS • FASCIA • FLOOR & PANELLING • DOOR JAMBS • JOINERY PROFILES QUALITY TIMBER PRODUCTS SINCE 1916 0800 100 095 | 61 Katere Road, New Plymouth | sales@clelands.co.nz | www.clelandstimber.co.nz
