With a knowledgeable and dedicated team, and all the necessary equipment to carry out plumbing, gas fitting, drainage, roofing, and gutter work, Plumbing Works has completed projects in the residential, industrial, and commercial sectors within the city and on rural properties across the Bay of Plenty since 1982. ”I’ve always recognised the value of being a member of our national body, which lobbies for our industry, promotes best practice, and upholds business ethics with ongoing training for its members,” company founder Craig Coxhead says. “Ongoing training is particularly important for skilled craftsmen plumbers, who then find themselves as business owners. I recognised this from my early days in business, taking university courses in business management and marketing to complement my trade skills.” Craig says a lack of available education for people in the plumbing industry is still one of its biggest issues today. “Business owners need to keep up with technology, understand contract law, HR, work on governance, business planning, and financial literacy. “There are so many parts to running a successful business, and young plumbers who lack the training in those areas will eventually stumble and fall.” Twenty years ago, Plumbing Works partnered with Dean Dalton, director of DaltonPlan® Business Action Planning, to develop and improve operational efficiency, profitability, finances, sales, and marketing in the business. This ongoing relationship has been invaluable for Plumbing Works and the company’s continued success with its day-to-day operations. “Plumbing is very repetitive work and whatever Plumbing Works is doing today, someone would already have done before. “Whether it’s installing a main plant room for a large rest home or hotel complex, or fitting out a new bathroom for a homeowner, we already understand the process and the costs of labour and materials. “I’ve always been happy to share my knowledge to ensure the success of industry members.” Through commercial plumbers’ invitation-only group CARC, of which Plumbing Works has been a member for many years, New Zealand plumbing companies meet a few times each year to share industry updates and up-skilling opportunities. They network, team build, and also raise money for charity. “This is trades-people working together for the common good, sharing and growing together, and passing information along for the good of the whole community.” Craig says it has been a pleasure for his family to have been involved in the plumbing industry, giving them a wonderful life and the opportunity to train about 40 apprentices over the years. Craig’s son Tim is now part of the succession plan and is looking to take over the business. “We want to see qualified and competent trades-people in the workforce, making sure that they are also good businesspeople.” Covering all areas of: DOMESTIC & COMMERCIAL PLUMBING • DRAIN UNBLOCKING & CCTVWORK • SEPTIC TANKS – WASTEWATER SYSTEMS – STORMWATER SYSTEMS TANKS & PUMPS FILTERS www.plumbingworks.co.nz | 0800 002 009 | office@plumbingworks.co.nz Celebrating 40 years Membership of NZ Master Plumbers Association Servicing Tauranga and the greater BOP area for over 42 years
