CONTRACTING Summit Hydraulics “One call. Sorted!” That’s the promise of Summit, the Rotorua-based hydraulics solutions company, as proudly stated by its executive director Chris Joseph. Summit has evolved over its 52-year history, from automotive engineering beginnings in 1973 to acquiring the only hydraulic specialist company in Rotorua in 1979, and embracing the advances in technology that eventually led to the demise of the automotive division, while enhancing the role that hydraulics played, firstly in the mobile market and increasingly in the industrial sector. Today, Summit remains privately owned by the second and third generations of the original owners, and while its primary focus is on industrial hydraulics, it has significant expertise and offerings in automation, system monitoring, filtration and water processing, managing director Dane Joseph, Chris’ son says. Summit’s fully equipped machine shop and service facility in Rotorua is ideally located to provide support to its major industrial customers in the pulp and paper and timber-processing mills, as well as to Fonterra’s dairy factories and power-generation plants throughout the central North Island in particular. “Our highly qualified and experienced team of engineers and senior technicians is the largest in the country, dedicated to providing system design and specification, installation and commissioning, diagnostics, overhaul and performance testing, and ensuring the most efficient plant uptime for all of our customers,” Dane says. Summit was the first company in New Zealand to achieve and be appointed the status of Certified Excellence (CE) Partner by Bosch Rexroth International, and as such enjoys access to, and support of, the Hagglunds and Rexroth hydraulic products not available to other operators and suppliers of those brands. “Rexroth and Hagglunds products have been the primary system components in recent major upgrades, and some to imminently be installed, to bring state-of-the-art technology and solutions to increase production and reliability at our pulp and paper and also power- generation plants, ensuring optimum uptime and productivity for years to come,” Chris Joseph says. Innovative hydraulic control systems design is another specialty offered by the company, integrating precision control, real-time monitoring and advanced algorithms delivering industry-leading efficiency and reliability. Summit Hydraulics’ custom-designed control panels feature remote monitoring and telemetry, automated hydraulic actuators and valves, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). “With more than 50 years of successful operation, evolution, and growth behind us, I am committed to carrying on the growth and embracing new technologies and opportunities to provide security and satisfaction to our accomplished team while they meet the needs of our clients nationwide,” Dane adds. This is evidenced by the recent addition of qualified engineers with vast overseas experience in water treatment and also energy efficiency and emissions reduction, and modern solutions to major industrial requirements. Summit has the ability, credentials, and relationships with manufacturers and suppliers to service any brand of component in use in New Zealand, but chooses to focus on partnering with and promoting only the proven and most reputable brands to ensure superior options and solutions are offered to essential industrial plant operators in New Zealand.
