Founded by Dalene Nelson in 2002 as a sole practice, Archwin Design has continued to evolve since Dalene retired two years ago. Today, Archwin Design is a small but productive team led by the founder’s son-in-law Paul Viskovich and his business partner Shelvin Naiker. Paul has worked within the family-owned practice since 2008, becoming co-owner and director two years ago in partnership with fellow designer Shelvin. The two have more than 20 years’ combined experience and are architectural design Licensed Building Practitioners, leading a small team of junior designers working on a diverse range of residential and multi-unit developments. Primarily residential designers, Archwin Design specialises in high-end, standalone bespoke homes, townhouses and multi-unit dwellings, renovations and re-cladding projects. “We do everything from alterations to new standalone houses, duplexes, townhouses, and large-scale re-clad projects,” says Shelvin. “We’ve done three-storey, multi-unit townhouses and even some mixed-use developments,” Paul adds. One of their largest projects to date is a mixed-use development on Dominion Road. “That was a unique project,” says Paul. “The ground floor is commercial, currently occupied by Lab Tests, with four high-end, two-bedroom apartments on each of the two floors above.” Indicative of their design versatility, the Dominion Rd project joins an impressive portfolio of townhouse developments completed for homeowners and developers alike. Archwin Design also takes on some select, small-scale commercial projects, typically through referrals from clients. They are capable of completing design projects and associated services for clients across the country, says Paul, such as new homes and additions recently designed for clients in Tauranga, Taupo, Rotorua and Dunedin. “We don’t say ‘no’ to much work. Our goal is to help people with their ideas, no matter how complex,” says Shelvin. “We often take on projects that other firms shy away from. The more challenging, the better – we love a challenge,” Paul adds, reflecting their confidence in tackling intricate architectural projects. Archwin’s team excels in complex re-clad projects, with notable works completed recently in Piha and Titirangi. “Recladding has almost become a specialty for us,” Paul notes. Offering a full suite of architectural design services from concept to completion, including resource and building consents, Archwin Design delivers high-quality work efficiently and in close partnership with the client. The firm collaborates with clients to create homes that reflect their lifestyles. “We don’t dictate how people should live. We design homes that work for how they live,” Shelvin says.
